As far as that goes, if LL decides to shut down Second Life I doubt they will be giving refunds for Lindens.

and most likely you wouldn't get reimbursement for premiums unused either.

Well, can't think of one. In situations like this people react emotionally and don't care about the legalities. Not saying it is right but all this copyright and other stuff I think people find it complicated and don't really understand it. They are not looking at the big picture.

Wow, just wow. And I'm doing it wrong. Who knew the way to become actually well off was to sell someone else's work?

Oh, and I don't just mean the Ozimal folks, but also people who make money selling breedables third party [and I suspect reselling gachas].

As to the house thing, originally, the second house was put forward as a means of payment....but towards the end it got so bad that the first house was on the chopping block too and they filed for bankruptcy to protect it, palming ozimals off onto another person as they did so.

Anyway, as to the ozimals thing, one thing that also concerns me is how far the ripples of the ozimals shutdown will go. I imagine there are a good few sims out there and stores that have sprung up to cater to the bunnies and their accessories.

Its not just the bunny owners who will suffer due to this, its the people whose businesses and lands rely on the existence of the bunny fanbase.

It is my hope that the ozimals wont simply be shut down forever, but that they will change hands and eventually resurface in some way, with the proceeds of their business going to the correct persons. This seems to be about getting the money to the right people rather than just wiping the business out forever. Now that's apparently settled, maybe we can move forward in a positive way, even if that takes some more time.

SL breedables reminds me of the Emu breeders here in my part of Texas 20 years ago. It was going to be the next big thing and replace beef as a staple food. People were paying thousands of dollars for breeding animals but they were just selling to other breeders. In the end their Emu's were less than worthless and people were releasing them into the wild so they wouldn't have to feed them. "Wild" emu's were spotted around here for years. It was a useless product with no market other than other breeders just like SL breedables.

Bixyl Shuftan has kindly left a box outside the second life newser offices that gives out the everlasting timepieces. Thankyou to Hamlet Au for the heads up on this. As of 19th May, this box is still present in world - grab one if you need to extend the lifespan of your ozimal rabbits.

*edit* - There is another sort of timepiece called a 0 Day timepiece that can be used on a newborn ozimal. This is being circulated in the "for the love of oz" group and I have also sent a copy to Bixyl in the hope that he will add it to the box that he put out.

Weird how in the transcript there they can't recall how much they made but in this interview they are happy to disclose it.

"Any bunny who is Everlasting will continue to function, as he or she does now: without cost," the Ozimals post said. "Any bunny who is not Everlasting will be unable to eat and will hibernate within 72 hours."

Now, hibernation doesn't sound so awful, except that unless the Ozimals database is restored, those little bunny rabbits are never going to wake up. So it's really "hibernate," in the same sense of your old dog being sent away to live out her twilight years "on a farm." It's a brightly-colored bow on a grim, grey package, and nobody's getting out of it alive.

Tell them the bunnies are dead. Then explain to them that if they ever decide to start their own business they need to make sure they get everything down in writing up front, and then only work with people they trust, and then they need to get everything down in writing again, and then go buy them an ice cream...and a Meeroo!

A conservative estimate based on what has been put out there would be that Ozimals made as much as an 8 figure income overall from this. For those who are crying "oh poor Ozimals!", keep that in perspective.

I feel nothing because they lied the entire time, trying to hide the money, and the new owner is complicit to some degree. I only feel bad for the people who stand to lose the use of their stuff, but nothing lasts forever, so... get a fix if you can and move on.

It's sweet of you to assume they're capable of perspective.

The only information I've seen is that they made 1.2 mil in the first year, which was no doubt their best year by far. By year 3 the people breeding bunnies dropped dramatically. By year 7 there weren't very many left at all. If they made 5 mil all-in-all, I would be surprised.

With that said, even a few million dollars is whole lotta money. How is it that Malkavyn can't afford to fight legally? Why can't Ozimals Inc pay the people they owe for their work? I have to wonder where all that money went. This whole thing almost seems like a conspiracy at this point.

Where did the money go??
