Didn' work:
Quote:
Authentication Failed.

The link you clicked is requesting an operation that requires authentication, but the authentication failed. There are five main reasons why this may happen:
1) The link you clicked on was not generated for you, but was intended only for someone else's use to perform an action on their account. If the other person pasted such a link into a message body or you were re-directed to such a link from another link you clicked on, the authentication will fail and you will arrive here instead.
2) The link was valid for you, but your authentication ticket has expired. If this is the case, hit the back button in your browser and refresh the page containing the link. You will then get a fresh ticket and when you click on the link again it will work.
3) Your browser session may have expired. If so, hit the back button in your browser, then refresh the page containing the link you clicked on. You will get a fresh ticket and if you click on the link again it will work.
4) Your browser may be set to not accept session cookies (or the cookie may have been deleted, or you may have been prompted and refused the cookie), in this case you should modify your browser settings to accept session cookies, and/or accept the session cookie if you are prompted, in order to use this site.
5) Your browser arrived at this location from someplace other than this site (an external link or site), or your browser or security software may be set to not send referrer information, in this case you should use the links on this site itself or verify that your browser or security software settings allow sending referrer information, in order to use this site.

The link works for me, both logged in and not logged in at the link above and at their forum.

Does this mean they'll start using real forum software again?

I'll be waiting and then complain
But seriously, now that I'm thinking about it, I have hope again, that the new forum setup will stop "discriminating" my native language. Its incredible difficult to write in German there right now, because I have to constantly edit words, because the forum forbits us to post anything containing or .

It needs it, the forums are horrendous. Although saying that, it's a big imrpovement to what they used to be like. Wasn't they run on a FB platform before?

Why couldn't they just leave it on vBulletin is beyond me. Let's hope they change it to Xenforo.. (for all those who don't know, Xenforo is a relatively new platform run by the old, original vBulletin developers.)

XenForo

Is there actual useful conversation on there? Because I've literally never used it.

XenForo

Having helped convert and move a phpnuke forum that had been running since 2000 to xenforo I can honestly say I recommend it too.

The content creation forums are useful (well, the Scripting one is, and the others look sensible, too) and there's an Answers section where some of us try to help out new residents with practical problems to do with the viewer and suchlike.

Dunno what the business-related ones are like. The general discussion forum usually seems a bit of a waste of time, but maybe that's because I don't read it that often.

I keep getting my comments removed their for some reason. I don't think it is a software issue.

Didn't know what to make of it at first, but after one of my favorite forums converted, I'm actually really enjoying it.

So...any news yet, that I might have missed? The 27th is over and the forums are still in read only mode.

Blog Bot warned us a few days ago that they were running a bit behind schedule and probably wouldn't be up until sometime today.

The blog post about the delay has also been removed. Or maybe the site was reloaded from a backup that was before the update.

Maybe it blew up when Amazon Web Services went down?

A software change should not cause the forums to be down for anything like the 9 days that we have already counted. The software would have been set up in advance, thoroughly tested, populated with new content, migration scripts written for old content and accounts being transferred (which is often not done), and test migrations done until they're happy it's all working. After that, it should just be a case of taking the site offline, migrating the content (if needed), flicking a few switches to link to the new site, and bringing it back up. I can't imagine downtime of anything more than a few hours for that. Maybe I'm missing something.
