Any person that drives around in a deliberately emaciated avatar and claims to have anorexia, or is pro-anorexia, is role playing. They are making light of a very serious metal disorder that takes lives - all for sexual kicks. I find this disgusting.

Then again, I'm weird that way. Pondering trying it in RL, but..mmmh. It will take so long to grow back! :/

I LOVE being tall, dead handy when you want to change a lightbulb too. But as a teen it took awhile to accept Id never be dainty. Every little difference seems magnified at that age. Ive just had to guide a 12 yr old thro accepting that shes likely to be a 6fter (5ft 8 already).
The pressures on children are just enormous and trying to focus them on exam results rather than appearance is an uphill battle somedays.

Groups like this pro-ana are beyond my comprehension and I think theyre dangerous for impressionable youngsters who arnt confident in themselves and how they look.

Sticking your dick in one of these things officially counts as necrophilia.

Also, anybody who thinks realistic height avs are children in SL, do you think anybody you've fucked in real life who was under 6 feet tall was a child? No? But in Second Life they ARE children?

People amaze me.

Brazilians add a special little spiciness to SL all their own.

It was a Brazilian I overheard telling his SLsexmate, "You suck good like my chicken."

that boggles the mind, Penny. Yours was the first avatar I saw that was so goddamn sweet-looking I felt intimidated by it

I couldn't imagine taking away the "cute" from your "cute but could totally fuck you up" look you have going on.

And that's what we're talking about, really: round parts on women are cute, they're pretty...they're MEANT to be there.

Fortunately, models and such aside, I see genuine evidence that Americans are starting to come wise to the fact that women are meant to have nice, round bodies:

I live in a college town, and over the last 10 years, I've seen more and more girls walking campus with some real curves, NOT dressed to hide them, for a change.

This pleases me on many levels

I guess my avatar conforms enough to "normal" proportions that I've never heard negative criticism about her. Except when I walk around bald which is an entirely different statement. But I actually did lose a friend accidentally when I tp'd her to me after a really long time of not seeing her avi in person. She was in one of those corsetry groups, and her waist slider was all the way at 0 and you could see the mesh being distorted around her, otherwise her shape looked thin but ok, but her waist and hips and love handle area... well, it repulsed me, and the first thing I said was "wow... your shape.. your waist looks disgusting, I hope you're changing that". Because I'm blunt like that. Well, unfortunately our friendship wasn't strong enough to handle that sort of comment, and she tp'ed away and I was left backpeddling trying to a) find out why her shape was like that and b) tell her I didn't have anything against her personally I just was worried about her own self image. Well, I certainly made a rather harsh snap judgment about her and I still feel guilty about it. But luckily I don't think she was ever pro-ana, just... hopefully she was trying to fit under a prim corset

This is something I've seen and have talked about several times over the years. Having been a gymnast for the past 16 years (though hardly hard-core) and currently employed part time as an instructor (was full time at a point), I've seen several girls worried about their bodies, doing things to them and pushing themselves too far for what they've been led to think is "ideal". It's really a sad thing.

I tell my students that they don't have to give up their bodies and encourage them to keep healthy (prevention is the key and stuff!). I also say to never worry about weight as that little number is so meaningless. I do not push them for medals and such, just to have fun and take care of themselves in the process; I believe those are the most important things. Yet I still get some asking me how much they should weigh, or they tell me soandso said this. It's really gets old seeing just how much outside influences effect them. Muscle weighs more than fat, that is a simple fact, it doesn't matter what Suzie Q's weight next door is, she has a different body type. In first life, I am a shorter woman with a small frame yet weigh many pounds more than people would assume and know I look great. I don't need a chart to tell me if I am acceptable or not.

As far as my avatar goes, minus the obviuos non-human elements, her body type is obsessively based on mine, though anyone who knows me can tell you I am a proportion nazi . I've gotten quite a few complements, and quite a few people assuming I am a child for no other reason than I'm under 6 feet tall, many are rather threatening too. I've had one person say I had no chest or hip definition, which I took as quite an insult...until I saw her avatar that is, I just laughed hysterically to myself and carried on. You be the judge http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/gen...tml#post247983

Anyway, who really cares what somebody else says your body should look like or what they think you should weigh. Real people are perfect how they are.

Groups that support such a sickness are...well... sick.

Well the SL fashionista movement in general is just sort of sickening. We all know these bitches aren't 17, a lot of them are well over 30, just trying to be cool and be the badass bitch they can't be in real life. There is no reason to protect them or act like they are lost children looking for direction. They are some fat bitch who shops at wal-mart for 90% of her clothes and reads fashion mags while defrosting Uncrustables for her kids.

All of these so called SL fashion magazines look EXACTLY the same. The models all look the same, think white avie with bad tans and the standard hair. They all look the same, there is no diversity at all. No diversity in skin color, shape, hair style. None of these magazines have a look that sets them apart from the next.

The look that some people describe as "shallow caricatures" is how some people look in real life. Not all of these fakeass blingtard bitches with no hips but a big ass, no belly fat but huge tits, but there are some people that have larges asses, larges breasts and smaller waists. The coca-cola body shape isn't just some myth. My avatar is built just like my Aunt, who I always thought had the perfect body. That is my perception of the perfect body and luckily beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

If people want to have these stick thin unrealistic looking avies (I mean in reality you would just die if you looked like this), then let them. I really don't see it as being much different than being a Furrie. I don't think that everyone should have to protect idiots who are easily influenced from themselves, that is what natural selection is for. If someone wants to make a stick thin Avie that is their damn business, unless you pay their internet fees and account payment it is none of your business. They aren't affecting you. This is supposed to be an 18+ grid, everyone is an adult and can make their own decisions.

"Shallow caricatures" doesn't just refer to their shape, though. Just about every one I've met who fit my description was purposely butchering the English language with ghetto slang, acting tough and threatening to everyone and generally had a personality just as ugly and stereotypical as their avatar.

But I'll make you a wager -- one we probably can never settle -- that just about every one of the blingtard bitches I was referring to were actually little whitebread boys living in Mom's basement acting out their cross-dressing fantasies while watching MTV. I've never met anyone who was THAT shallow in RL, though i'm sure they're out there.

What I'm getting at is that what's inside you makes you pretty or ugly, not the shape of your sliders.

I don't think people have a problem with very thin avatar's per se (beyond perhaps finding them unattractive). I think the problem people have is with the idea that anybody could be pro-anorexia. Most people wouldn't have a problem with an avatar that has no legs either - unless that avatar was in an amputee fetish group. The problem is with people choosing another person's affliction and forming a fetish group around it. It is insensitive and cruel, and demonstrates profound ignorance. And I don't think anybody is suggesting thin avatars be banned, or pro-anorexia groups be shut down. They have a right to their insensitivity and ignorance, and we have a right to call them out.

Anorexia nervosa - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Anorexia is thought to have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder, with approximately 6% of those who are diagnosed with the disorder eventually dying due to related causes. The suicide rate of people with anorexia is also higher than that of the general population and is thought to be the major cause of death for those with the condition.

I'd even say this goes beyond the amputee fetish. A person may have a thing for amputees, but isn't necessarily encouraging someone to remove their limbs. And it's understandable, if someone is turned on by thin avatars, just as some like the full figured look. But in this case it is manifested in a group encouraging what basically amounts to self mutilation, in my opinion. It would bother me just as much if it were a "Fat Chicks" eat till you explode group. In essence, it's Dietary Gaslighting
