Sales have been stable and reasonable for me. There's a lot more factors to consider than just the state of the economy in SL. Is that guy taking a break from events / new releases; is he in bad events with no publicity; has he been slacking on keeping his marketplace listings updated; has he been keeping up with item quality; is there a new competitor in his niche grabbing all the customers; etc. Those are all things that will quickly and negatively impact sales.

I'd say that stability depends on which market you're in. If you're making clothes for mesh bodies, you ought to be seeing a good increase in business as people are hungry for fitted mesh clothes that fit their bodies correctly. We can see from Tyche's report that land is on a slow decline and has been for a long while. If land is down, breedables and certain kinds of home decor items might be as well. But like Jackal said, if people are not out there aggressively marketing, then sales will be down, especially if one is not keeping up with the quality of newer items.

I really dont have the info to know. He just related a sharp drop in April/May while we were talking about this whole lindex slide thing. My mind filled in the gaps. I was just a bit shocked by the numbers.

I think what's happening is people are 'undercutting?' on the lindex to get money faster, then other people do the same and next thing you know, its a mess.

It used to work to set a limit sale that was better than the going rate, since the overturn was swift enough. So on1-2 LS below the current going rate took maybe a week at most.

But now one ls below the current going rate can sit for weeks. And the rate doesn't settle down either, 3 weeks later instead of selling for 251 ls, you'll end up selling for 253 LS instead.

Over 6,000,000 at 255 right now. This is crazy. I was going to sell a chunk of L$ today, but I think I'll sit this one out for awhile and hope it settles down.

This doesn't look natural anymore, I have the feeling, that someone, maybe LL, is playing.

SL is an old platform. Not so many newbs around anymore. So the demand for new goods will shrink (there are very little people who need a 1,246th pair of shoes or a 123th new home) and the flow of people quitting the game will not dry up either.
So there is less demand for L$ in world, and therefor L$ become cheaper....
I predict that the steady fall of the value will continue for a while, until on one point there will be some sort of a bank run, because the landbarons will get tier payment problems.
Probably somewhere around the moment Sansar will open for business.
The ones with a huge pile of lindens at that moment will be screwed.

The timeline is hard to predict, can be weeks, months, even years.
But there will be a point when the millions in L$ will become worthless, because I can't imagine that LL will trow in lots and lots of USD to save the L$ once Sansar has arrived.

Hi

Sorry this is my first post in forever :/

Some of us was just talking about this too, it does seem like it could be a managed adjustment over a period of time?

If I look back at Nan's original post the market volume has changed a bit on buys...

Then:

Sell
L$273M
Buy
L$16M

Today:

Sell
L$475M
Buy
L$13M

Looking at sales there is a bobble at 249-251 which I think are legit sales waiting for long term cash out and is in line with earlier adjustment.

252 -253 could be those pushing to go quick as Beth mentioned.

254 and up I got to think is Supply Linden? As 253 is still instant right now. 252 is taking a few hours (likely about to stop).

253 is not instant right now and 252 is history. It's almost 7,000,000 at 255 and someone just jumped that to 256.

You are right - sorry, that was my sale yesterday, just re-tested and it's now history... wonder if they are aiming for a point adjustment a day?

The shift from 247 to 250 over the past couple months felt like a steady change.

251 to 254 in a week is a bit quick in comparison isn't it? At this rate it could be at 260 in another week or two. Or, it could be temporary panic and we may resume the slow & steady course soon... I dunno vu.uv

Inworld sales are steady for me, as always - mostly influenced by how quickly I can make new products. (not very ;-; too perfectionist)

Seeing open sell orders at 256 now :/

I wonder if this is meant to make people buy more L$, since everything on the marketplace gets effectively discounted by 2%.

Wonder if the estates that get paid in LS will catch up?

Edit: 257. It's going pretty fast now i'd say.

Right now I eat it up from my little overhead. But the rents will not be lowered as much as I wanted when October comes and I have recovered the money I paid to down buy my regions.

Except LL didn't have a region buy-down sale 4 months ago, so get off your high horse.

Things would have continued at a snails paces without the unintended consequences of the sale.

Anyway, the Lindex will recover in within a week. Probably in the 260 range after it continues to fall.

In other news, now is a great time to buy some L$!

I just bought 10,000 L's in world and paid $39.46 which is about a dollar less than what I've been paying for the past year or so.

There are far, FAR more people who buy in than cash out.

It's little 1000's here and 2000's there to buy in, for people buying stuff.

Then the money flows to the fewer creators and they cash out much larger amounts.

Eventually the linden will get so "cheap" compared to the dollar that buyers will begin to balance with sellers and the market should stabilize. Hopefully anyways. Otherwise I'll see you all in Sansar?

I haven't really been shopping since I got a new residential island last winter. Another reason why I need to move to Sansar. With C# on the horizon, I can look forward to better functionality in the things I code and buy. I am sick of LSL.

I think LL is messing with the Lindex, squeezing more money out for Sansar.

Genuinely curious: how is the "buy down" in your opinion related to the current Lindex events?
