I was in a sim with a casino owner a while back who had about 40 camping pads to the point that myself and my customers often couldn't get in because the sim was full. We had a war too and LL told him to remove most of them.

Regardless of whether they own the land or not if the camping pads prevent others from using the sim LL will tell them to be removed.

I thought LL didn't get involved in camping issues. Thanks.

But - what about this owner who claims she can't use her own land? There, to my mind, is a big difference between two landowners having traffic issues and a landowner having traffic issues with non-owners.

They won't get involved until extreme cases, but if someone's using a lot of temp rezzers for instance LL will ask the land owner to remove some.

Are we really, seriously going to introduce "loitering" into the SL vocabulary?

understood...but its childish

I'm sure the new person had no idea what happened to her, but everyone else there did, and laughed out loud.

I guess thats why they lured her to a secluded spot...so that no one saw what they did.

The salient point is that the Infohubs were designed for loitering and congregation - that was their intent from the start.

So, the Bear Infohub is being used as intended. If her argument was that they are full of griefers and asshats, then that is another thing altogether, but that is not the crux of her argument.

The owner's most recent thread on this, started yesterday and speaking about the camping incident described by the OP, is here:

SL Forums

It is a little weird to see this thread, which is essentially a response from Bear socialites, cropping up on SLU.

I hear a rumor that LL is planning newer infohubs to be whole sims, thank god if it happens.

I have no idea what either side of the Bear controversy hopes to gain by starting up endless threads about it. I can recall 3 big threads on the SL Forums alone.

Considering SL is based on loitering, probably not.

All we *can* do anymore is loiter, given the state of the asset server.

Bear has been there a long time, and the people buying land near the info hub are there for the traffic. Thats why the land around that hub is killer high and why people pay those high prices. I've been to bear quit a few times and I've never seen it packed. Theres always people there but usually 5-10 people from my experience. Generally it's a few mentors there to help newbs. I'm sure she bought that land for the traffic, and now she's battling it. She should choose her battles a little better.

What's the difference between infohub people not being able to get into the hub and the landowner not being able to use her land? Tier.
Actually, she put the camp bots on a friend's land that is closer to the infohub than her land, which is on the opposite side of the sim.

I didn't start this thread to take the the Bear issue here to SLU per se, but to praise the Lindens for taking action against someone trying to keep people out of a public infohub. The Bear issue has been beat to death on the SL forums.

As someone who first rezzed from OI at Bear I have a few observations. The last time I was at Bear was my rez day, when I visited the places I had been to my first month in SL. Bear was a great place to start in SL. The people there were not all that helpful, but there were lots of places to explore in the vicinity. This woman bought there with the info hub already there, she was not there a year ago. She could have bought the parcel adjacent to the infohub, it changed hands recently, and is in the next sim, so there would not have been a traffic issue. Her operation chat spams the area constantly. From the discussion here, I think this is someone whose business plan is really fuzzy (I am being nice), she wants the infohub but only newbies, it isn't gonna happen. The group that currently hangs at Bear are pretty nice and have gotten to know each other. I mentioned I was celebrating my rez day and was given a warm welcome. Someone needs to rethink just exactly what she is trying to do since the plan obviously isn't working. Maybe we should all wear about 10 or 20 twisted toruses and pay her a visit,

Just to point out: The Isabel Infohub (Across from the Shelter) is also a Mature Infohub. Not only that, the infohub design itself was done to cater to new residents.

If you hung out there, the Shelter folk would welcome you guys with open arms, rather than attempting to start a futile tragedy-of-the-commons war

I Like Isabel and Bear's infohubs. I haven't spent more than a few times at Bear, But Isabel is a regular stop for me. I'll have to stop back at Bear a few more times to see it.

I agree that it doesn't make much sense to try and do something like that with land beyond your parcel. Back when I had a studio, I woulda killed to have steady traffic from an infohub. Some people just don't know when they have an opportunity.
