What's funny is that there was tons of BAWWWW yesterday in concierge information chat, with some sim owners saying that LL doing this is bad because it competes with them directly, and they cannot compete with the tier prices.

LOL

So, I've seen Bay City. I don't see what the problem is. I think LL should have been doing more stuff like this since the beginning.

Of course, it's still mainland, and it will have all the problems mainland has. Sounds like the theme will not be strictly enforced, so while some will do great things with it, you'll still have the usual mess. I doubt private estate owners have much, if anything, to worry about.

The Lindens used to do stuff like this on some sims...the old city sims for example and some of the old linden suburban sims like Boardman and Brown have Linden roads on them and content. Those plots go for quite a bit now, because although it's not for everyone, some people like to work in theme and have sort of a sense of place.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the moles do next. (Linden Department of Public Works employees)

I love this feature. If someone wants to fuck up the sim they at least have to pay for 512 tier to do so on top of the high prices I'm sure it the land here will fetch.

Have you looked at some of the dumb ideas theyre considering?

Areas with a rising sea level, maybe 1 meter per year, forcing residents to move, and submerging beloved landmarks.

Mining. If prims had to be discovered, and dug out of the ground, or grown on trees, then newbies could hunt, mine, and gather them and sell to builders. A real economy 8-)

uh oh

Thats just silly thinking. I'd be pissed if I busted my ass building a place and establishing it only to have to rebuild every year. I don't get how the prim thing would work. Would they still be copyable? How would we sell goods? It just doesn't make sense for sl so theres no way they can get that idea to work. They better get back to thinking again.

I can't think of a better way to drive builders out of SL.

Next thing, that's going to happen is that the Sheep will try to buy Brazilian Newb labor to mine the great prim mine of Potosi, and they'll all die of mercury exposure. And then they'll send the valuable prims in their sailing ships, and Sir Francis Drake Linden will attack them at sim crossings.

Ah geez Aisuru, I should have made a landmark.

I was just there cruising around for a half hour and one word can sum up the place - unimpressed.

About half of the drawbridges are broken, road prims totally misaligned, some of the builds just don't make any sense or look half done. Cripes even the bowling alley looked like it was just slapped together in my opinion.

Everything I clicked on was done by a Linden in the "Maintenance" department but it looks like they've taken their cues from what we've come to expect from Linden Lab as a whole.

Half thought out, slapped together, and borked.

Ah thats kinda harsh. They haven't done this in a while so I'm sure they will have a few bumps to work out. I'm pretty excited there taking an active role in making roads and so on again. I missed having real roads, and with this sim, the roadsides can't be divided into 16 meter ad lots. We will still have ugly build problems Im sure, but not that sickening ad mess were used to on most mainland. I think this is a great step being taken to improve the crappy rep mainland has gotten lately. I do estates but my hearts always been in dealing mainland so maybe thats why I see this bay city set up as so exciting. I'd love to see more mainland sims like this, and Shermerville, west haven, ect.

maybe I'm easily impressed but I thought it looked ok. empty, yeah. but some of the buildings I saw were good I thought. the fences are nice. theres a lot of fences. little details like the "prim" factory, thats cute. don't get the whole mole people thing. bowling is kinda wack though.
