I only learned about Renderosity a few months ago, but it appears that half the "texture packs" available on SLExchange are illegally imported from Renderosity (sometimes they even use the "box art" from renderosity in their listings). The other half, of course, are ripped from public domain or licensed web sites.

I'm in the wrong line of work.

I do remember that Minnu was one of those stores who was part of the fight against skin stealing. In fact, the person/people behind Minnu went so far as to say that they would stop releasing new skins as their protest against skin theft on SL.

Which leads me to believe that one (and only one) of the following two scenarios is true:

1. Minnu did have an agreement with Dannae (which would seem unlikely given Dannae's statements);

2. Minnu has been agitating against skin theft while stealing skin designs him/her/themselves, which is the height of irony.

If #2 is true, there is gonna be a mighty furious backlash for Minnu. Dear God what a clusterfuck.

I never owned any of Minnu's skins but I did pick up a few freebie men's skins when they were on offer. I still consider them to be among the best men's skins I've seen in SL.

If you want to buy a skin that hasn't been made by Lost, I wouldn't go shopping for one at Armidi either. That's a hunch and only a hunch but... Armidi sure does look like Lost and Ambyance's style. (with the exception of the content creators they hired to make clothing)

I do agree. That's like suggesting I check out all the outstanding patent litigation GM is involved with before I buy a Chevy. It's just not reasonable.

It's not reasonable to expect a consumer to know - however, once you are made aware of it, then it becomes of choice of continuing to patronize that business.

The difference is if GM rips off someone else's car design it's flashed all over the news.

Also GM is not an individual person generating content by hand, often in their own free time, to make a living.

This analogy is flawed.

By all means if you don't know, you don't know. But now you do. And if anyone chooses to patronize the businesses of someone who's stealing content from others, I think that's pretty sad personally.

Do you have any idea how much legislation is pending against GM right now? Not every case gets a story. Especially not if its one about a patent dispute about a car part that the driver never sees. Believe me, I picked that analogy specifically because I do know something about it. Expecting you to know about all those many lawsuits is as unreasonable as expecting a non-skin maker to know all the ins and outs of that trade.

I do agree. But both sides haven't been heard from yet, have they? I'm cautious at this point. But if you'll note, I did start a thread asking for skin recommendations because of this.

Keep in mind, however, this remains an accusation - the people behind Minnu have not commented on this.

I seriously doubt there'll be any noticeable backlash at all.

We see a semi-popular texture dealer scream in thread after thread about people reselling textures from her 200+L packs and claiming hours and days and months of work spent on them when they're every one uploaded from public domain sites or, at best, tweaked with a colour filter.

It doesn't even surprise me anymore when second lifers get indignantly flippant about their rights to sell anything. They've adopted that attitude from the Lindens telling us they don't care if we leave in protest because "there'll always be somebody else to buy the land."

Oh I know, I was speaking in general about this stuff, not specifically here. There are two sides to this, and these types of dramas can quickly turn into a witchhunt.

Ugh...I hate this stuff.

On a slightly different note, why did they send you this email Ten? I'm just curious since it's about a different person and not you directly.

Cristiano, why do you not patronize Lost stuff, should we be aware of something to avoid?

In another thread someone posted Lost's customer service policy which basically consisted of "Fuck off and never bother me for anything at all," which a lot of us thought was pretty disgusting.

It's not from an issue of content theft or anything like that - it is a personal thing for me with him. He is quite talented, I just would prefer not to buy stuff from him.

Joshua is also right - his attitude is part of it as well.
