I'm not aware of any credible mainstream journalists who would print a story with only one side or source. There must be collaboration, either witnesses or documents or something - if nothing else to make sure the person coming to them is who they say they are.

That's not a condemnation of you, Ten. I've said that all blogs operate under different rules. But I still feel you are at risk here, should somehow Minnu exonerate herself. Sure, maybe that's a big "if", but it's still a risk because you've taken it upon yourself to be the standard bearer in the crusade. This is exactly why journalists double check their sources - it preserves their credibility.

Quote:
I was, and am, forced to go along with one side, and it will continue to be one-sided unless Minnu decides that it would be a good idea to publish a rebuttle on SCD.
That would make you the arbiter of this issue, and I'd bet money that Minnu would rather deal directly with Danae.

Quote:
Her lack of response, I will agree, is not reacting well with her "fan base".
I wouldn't know. It's hard to tell in that flamewar on your blog who is who since they can make up names.

Most SLers are like me - we know of Minnu, we've either bought a skin or at least picked up some demos. But my embargo of her store is entirely conditional on her being exonerated. Until then I'm not judging her, I'm merely protecting my own conscience.

Meh, Cindy I have to disagree. Printing "so and so was contacted and declined to comment" is pretty standard journalism. As long as the "other side" was offered equal time, it is ok. If the other party refuses to comment that doesn't mean you can't report the story.

IF Minnu can prove herself innocent, then I will take the hit, as I usually do when I'm wrong. I'm willing to take some risks.

Minnu has been "dealing" with Danae in terms of leading her on a wild goose chase from what I understand.

I know who is who on my blog, and none of those people who have commented are Minnu. Mostly her workers and associates are the only ones "commenting" for her... and you can note how much of a disaster that has been already.

Yeah... somewhere in the comments on the blog it states that I would open SCD to Minnu's rebuttle, and I also messaged her earlier about it but got no reply.

Right. But is an email from someone who claims to be someone sufficient verification for you?

I'd totally believe Danae if she'd sent me the files, too - but then I've purchased some of her content for Poser work I've done so she's familiar to me. That doesn't mean I'd put the story on my blog and pimp it on the discussion boards, though. It's great for blog hits, not so good for reaching a settlement.

True but I don't know those details, if Tenshi knew who this was or checked honestly.

If she didn't, she lucked out since the source is who she says she is.

You don't need anything other than Photoshop (or a similar paint program), the templates, and enough patience to practice until you can make something you're happy with. Other tools can make it easier (once you learn them), but they aren't necessary at all.

Then again, Danae knew that Tenshi would blog about it.

And honestly there is no law that says you cannot make a public accusation of theft or that it is nullified unless it's kept behind closed doors, god knows.

I checked out all the information, it clicks as far as I'm concerned at this point. Danae is who she says she is, and wants Minnu to admit or properly deny the accusations. Minnu continues to weasel her way out of anything - including posting a rebuttle that could possibly explain her innocence to anyone who read my earlier post on the incident, majorly from Danae.

Well I work in Photoshop and Illustrator etc on a daily basis but I haven't messed with 3d for quite a while. It's interesting to me but also a bit overwhelming, well considering my phobia about skins, heh.

Once you have your brain around the templates there's really not anything very 3d about it. It you're already good in PS then you should be able to get into it pretty easily - or as easily as anyone else. My first few attempts looked like Bride of Frankenstein after a week long heroin binge.

Well my first attempt is going to be redoing Lucifer's demon avatar so even if it looks similar it may be a success, lol.

I just went rather insane over the seam issues with clothing so it kinda made me feel even more reluctant about skins.

Do eeeet! If nothing else, it's good fun. Don't go into it with the feeling that you need to produce something to sell, just enjoy the learning process. A lot of skin makers say that they could never deal with the seam issues on clothes, and some clothes designers say the same thing about skins. You never know, working with skins on Chip's templates may come easier to you than working with clothing.

will do

modo is really my fav wonder app though I still use my lovely Carrara a lot too for various stuff. Just, sculpties and making textures, modo is just the cats meow, in tandem with zbrush nothing is better I've ever worked with.

my testbed mod for sculptie baking in modo is here:

Cool Alternative! at Lovecraft Forest

Chip is right. 3d-Coat is really good, can't be beat for the price... just I dont need it.

Io, if you want to chat with me about anything, let me know. The seams drove me nuts at first, but now they're pretty easy.

how sweet, Ari Blackthorne has held my comments in moderation and didn't release them to his blog about the fact that yes, you can create an SL texture easily from a Victoria 3 mesh. I suppose its only ok to write approving comments, and not explain when people spread FUD about how to do things.

Yes, my friends, I am doing that Modo tutorial, because its better that EVERYone knows how to do this, than have a few folks claim they are uberwonderful and make a killing on someone elses work, while pushing down skin makers who actually do their own work.

So they are here for posterity:

“You cannot just drop a 3rd or 4th generation Poser skin onto an SL mesh”

yes you can. IF you have the right software. (Max, Modo, Lightwave, Maya, etc)

Oh, well… I’ll just have to show people how

It’s called baking high res to a low res mesh, and its standard practice for baking normal mapping and high resolution details on lower res game characters.

The irony is, if Minnu had freaking used a merchant resource and NOT a poser texture which is expressly licensed only for use in renders, she’d have had no problems at all.

Your comment is awaiting moderation.

add: V4 is more difficult than V3 to bake onto the sl av, because V3 is based on an older Zygote mesh (basically a higher rez version of Victoria 1/2) and V4 is all new geometry. Think of the SL Ruth as Vicky’s ugly cousin.

Wow - this thread has been an education in legalities and graphics.

I tried making skin for myself using the almighty gimp (gimp is my hero) and downloading the SL avvie models into the AC3d modelling program and overlaying Robin Woods fantastic UV mapping onto the models for testing out the flat graphics. It is definitely possible, though the quality of skins available in SL makes my efforts so far look deffo Flintstone-ish.

Patience is the key word I think.

/me resolves to have more patience........later

Anyway. Back to the 3D apps discussion, been highly interesting, and I agree that modo + Zbrush is a kickass combination.
