It is important to note that not everything on Renderosity has the same sort of license... if its a merchant resource kit, you're allowed to create your own products from it. Renderosity sells a whole lot of those as well. However, Danae's textures were NOT such a kit, and that is the ethical issue here.

I am unsure where it will all come out... technically a bake is a rendering, you've just rendered to uvmaps is all.

I think some clothing makers do some baking work in Poser/zbrush etc. I know that Neph has, she even had a tutorial on it.

Personally, I keep my layers intact on anything I may want to reuse or alter at another time and I can't imagine flattening a photoshop made skin , even if its just for my own reference in the future.

Neph has a tutorial on Lightwave. She's not using Poser for her clothes (Poser can't even bake). I know she uses Zbrush though ... we've talked on occasion about Zbrush

ps... Modo was made by Lightwave's original developers

the baking is done with a figure designed for Poser and Daz Studio, using a texture made for that figure, but the figure has been exported to an app like Lightwave, Modo, Maya+Turtle, etc... and most likely this is how the texture was baked from one mesh to another.

It is easy to do, with the right tools.

Yes. Although many good skin artists OGLE the mesh. (oops I said a bad word )

I really hate having to do it though... but LL hasn't given me an exporter for the shape (or for SL builds I create, for that matter) so I don't have any choice really, if I want a skin to match my SL shape without a lot of trial and error. I found the obj on the site to be pretty unusable compared to captured geo. I use that geometry, subdivided to give me the best possible quality when doing my work on the av textures.

<- that pic is me wearing my own skin, matched to my sl shape.

meh, I hate mentioning it, probably shouldn't post it, but maybe it just has to be said anyway... just hate that people will abuse it rather than take the opportunity to make better content.

So that is better than the obj files they have for download? Why? I'm just curious now, heh. I kinda doubt they care about their mesh, hardly anything to crow about, lol.

yeah. It has nothing to do with capturing the mesh. LL doesn't care about that, true. The problem is that when you are ripping geo, the ability to rip EVERYthing is there.

And then it depends on how honest you are...
