No, there's not, however even I - a relative poser at using Photoshop (get it? ) - know that you save incrementally whenever you make major changes. Before I flatten an image, I always have several numbered saves WITH layers, then another one or more after flattening. I'm hard pressed to accept that Minnu wouldn't have those incremental saves, each one probably fairly large considering the number of overlays you'd have to do to come up with such a great finished texture.

When I do Photoshop work that is worth a great deal of money (granted it's not that often, I'm not a skin maker), I always back it up to my external HD as well as a DVD. I still have texture files I created 4 years ago, stacked in my CD rack where they won't be lost or damaged.

Just seems to me if someone was making 4-figures a month they'd keep these things safe, if for no other reason than to make modified iterations of makeup, skin tone, etc.

You do, I don't. I should, but often I don't. And I'm very careless about making external backups (and once lost two years worth of work as a result).

You can't assume everyone has good working practices.

My work folder, the folder for my PS files currently is 82.4 GB, if someone wants layered versions of my work from any project over the past ten years, I can provide it.
My freind however seems to lose all his work on a monthly basis, so yeah we are all different, but I tend to think most people making money from PS do keep all layered work (and with skins I presume it would make even more sense because and update or style change would be 100 times easier with saved layers).

I really think anybody working professionally is not going to not save and have backups of their stuff.

I don't even sell textures or shit and I have about a hundred incrementally saved layered versions of every logo and box art for every product in my store going back three years.

I have one DVD of all my SL work up until 2006. My current SL folder is backed up on an external HDD which I plan to re-burn, again, for archiving. Currently it's at 11.gb.

Sorry, I also don't buy the "I lost my files, and don't have backups" ... reason.

When did the disputed skin come out in SL? If it has been a while, shit does happen. I've lost plenty of data in my time.

If Minnu could provide an unflatted PSD file for ANY of her skins, displaying that she has the talent to do this level of skilled work, then there might be more leeway for accepting her argument for the loss of one set of files.

But given the array of high-quality skins that she offers, I would find it very difficult to believe that she lost every single damn file and source photo.

At this point, I'm just relieved that I never got around to finishing up a shape product that used two Minnu skins. I'm out the money for them (ouch) but at least I'm not indirectly promoting sales.

It's a recent skin release. April, something like that? And there was a big release just this weekend I thought.

If the reports of Minnu's defense are correct, I personally find it improbable but obviously only a court could determine whether it's really an impossibility. If it comes to a court case and it's determined her primary defense is based on misinformation and perjury, that would be a serious strike at her credibility -- which may or may not impact the case, depending on how proceedings go, I suppose. Her credibility aside, though, it doesn't really change the questions raised by the rather vague license.

Do we know she hasn't Beebo? (I might have missed something...how do we know what she has shown and what she hasn't?)

I gave them a url of this thread and said, should you think you should defend yourself you should at least get a chance....

They said they would look into it. I talked to a rep not the manager.

I'd be surprised if they hadn't already found out about this thread. I'm SURE they know about the SCD post. Someone mentioned SLU a couple times there.

Eh, we'll see if the dramz goes on(and..on)...

This is an open forum, discussing a community issue. I think it's entirely appropriate that all concerned parties are aware of the discussion.

I just can not believe that I find myself on side I am on this thread. But I will not have a burning at the cross. Even if the person is guilty. This practice must stop. Forums are not a place where accusations should be made, especially ones as serious as this one.

I am sorry but you could read these 13 pages and know who exactly never really liked Minnu, or had some vendetta against her within a few clicks.

I just hope that I never piss you guys off. You all are a force to contend with and it is really very Jeckyl and Hyde how ugly things get so fast here. I feel like I am back in Second Citizen Forums or something.

I am just glad that a few others share my point of view. Thanks goes to Cindy Claveau and a few others...

Ultimately, honestly this is looking more and more like Minnu has some serious face-saving and innocence-proving to do.It really does not help her that she is being evasive of the issue at hand.

However I also feel that replying to every single post in this thread, posting news articles in every SL based publication of questionable objectivity, brings little if any gravitas to the original allegations made. It furthermore raises serious questions about possible bad blood between the parties involved and weakens the original copyright infringement argument.

It may be time for the original poster to take a short break simply to spare the validity of her argument. We always love reading everyone's posts, I just worry about the credibility of what they're saying at this point in time --especially in the face of the fact that they might actually be right in this case. :-)

I read it, I thought it was ridiculous.

"Forums" aren't the place for this? SL is a community program, forums are a community chatbox. Where else is the community supposed to find out that another member is ripping them off?

It's pretty clear cut to me on this. I don't know who the person involved is at all, I don't buy female skins, I have no vested interest in this drama.

Witchhunt?

I was a little skeptical at first, even though the creator of the skins, who doesn't even use SL, saw it and felt she recognized her work. The lips didn't really seem too close to me, then I saw the other images and that about wrapped it up as far as I was concerned.

Then to find out that this person has a seeming history of this sort of thing just nailed the coffin.

To the rest of your post I personally found it really offensive and completely untrue, and not representative of reality.

Yeah, situations like these can bring out the disdain/hate for >whatever<. I personally have nothing against Minnu or her establishments. I don't know her, have never met her, or shopped from her.

I'm just saddened that this has happened, especially in regards to such a large SL Business. :\ As a long time artist and skin designer, I can only offer my POV in an educational manner. What can I say, I'm kind of zealous about art ethics.

OK beatch... (Troy loves you, you know that right?)

Translation: Yes after seeing the other pics, I too think yeah Minnu really is going to have to defend herself. So yes, I do see similarities. But she does not have to defend herself to us, she only has to explain things to the challenging party.

And i think it is disingenuine for us to keep harping on that single point over and over just because some of us hate Minnu.

There's that's the five minute, less subtle version.

LOL

Happy now?

OK cue the dramaz.

BTW, Troy, second floor of the store has male skins.

I've never purchased an MM skin myself, though have been considering it, and now I'm less certain to until legal questions get sorted out and we see what other accusations may come down the line. I've previously advocated that LL blacklist/remove texture assets in the cases of skin rips and such, and I'd hate to pay money for something that could later turn out to merit that very action.

Now I want to go and buy the male skins because probably this all will end with the skins being pulled off of the market

Are they any good?

Yes, well Lost and Amby. Awhile back I found someone selling Losts older skins that were stolen, I IM'd him on his Abyss alt to let him know about it and he went to check it out. I knew Abyss was Naughty Designs when they first came out as they have very distinctive avs and styles. I have a feeling Abyss was created to cater to a 'less preppy' group of people. Also the male skin line was a dead give away as he had been working on those when under Naughty. Besides that, if Abyss wasn't Naughty Designs, I would think they would be raising all sorts of hell due to the similarities of their work.
