Lumiere Noir

Heard on G+ via Raffaele Macis that Lumiere Noir had died. He was such a lovely person, and contributed so much. I learned a lot from the Ivory Tower of Primitives and participated in building contests there in my early days in SL.

Hope that there is something arranged in SL to mark his passing, and thought I would maximise the chances that I would find out what it is by posting here. He must have helped thousands of people take their first steps with building in SL. There will be a lot of people wishing him well on the next stage of his journey.

That is sad news. I never met Lumiere Noir, in-world or otherwise, but it is no exaggeration for me to say that I would not be using Second Life if it weren't for him. I had signed up to find out about this funny online world where you could make things and was wandering around the bizarre mainland completely puzzled. Somehow I stumbled across the Ivory Tower of Prims and learned how to build from there. He also had landmark givers out leading to a texturing tutorial that I think is long-gone at this point and to Jopsy's Particle Lab. Without what I learned at the Tower as well as the connections I found from there, I think I would have given up on Second Life after only a few days.

I'll be interested to see if there is any sort of in-world memorial... I feel like I should go in and rez a prim or something.

I believe I still have a few of his items in my inventory

This is very sad.

Like so many other people, Lumiere's Ivory Tower got me making things in Secondlife, and I was hooked. It's been a fun creative outlet for me and for that I have Lumiere to thank. Big loss, especially for those who started early on.

And for his family of course. Sorry to hear he isn't with us any more.

I remember visiting the Ivory Tower several times as a noob in 2007. It was the texture info that brought me there, and also led me to Jopsy's lab. Thank you and RIP Lumiere, your resources helped me. I recall seeing the black spy avatar at the tower, but I didn't know that he was the owner. My condolences to his friends and family.

Some of my fondest memories in SL were when he or I would scamper across the few regions that separated our areas, to share an inspired new idea or creation. His madcap vehicles were always a delight. He was an inspiration, spreading the joy of tinkering to so many. I'll miss him deeply.

Sitting in Natoma thinking that Lum is forever memorialized here. Newbies and experimenters are forever in his debt for creating the Tower, accumulating the sandbox land, and bartering one of the rare deals that ensure its continued existence inworld. Look at that month-old girl happy dancing that her home is now encased in a floating skydome! Joy is his legacy.

I am heartbroken. I knew Lumi as Swen_Wu_Kong in There.com, and became friends with him again in Second Life.

My thoughts go out to his family.

Oh man, he was Hex's neighbor in Brown. Didn't see him much but his Spy vs Spy themed build there made Hex smile.

I first met Lumi in There.com where he was a regular at the TSO Refugees meetings, and was glad to reconnect with him once I came to SL. Hearing this news was truly crushing - like a safe falling on my head (oblig. Spy v. Spy reference). He was a great guy and his talent and generosity will certainly be missed. May his memory live on at the Ivory Tower.

I hadn't met him, but had been out to the Ivory Tower for the tutorials several times. It was/is still a wonderful resource, and it was very generous of him to have devoted the time, energy, money to create it and make it available for all to use.

Condolences to friends and family.

Very sad news. I first met him in There and later reconnected in SL. He was one of my biggest inspirations in early SL, and why I started teaching classes on how to build with prims. My condolences to his friends and family. He leaves an indelible mark on Second Life and those who knew him.

Oh this is sad news. The ivory tower was one of my favourite learning places, and there is nothing to equal it when it comes to prim building. I bumped into Lumiere when he was building a retro sci-fi sim (wish I could remember the name of it), and he was a lovely person to talk to- inspired, inspiring, and very pleasant.

((I also loved the Mad spy vs spy cartoons as a child, so thought his avvy was excellent.))

Thank you, Avi for organizing the remembrance! For those who couldn't be there, there were two rather full sims worth of people, my radar showed around 70 avatars at any given moment. It was touching to see so many people come out to remember Lumiere and to hear all the stories and see how many lives he touched.
