According to Joystiq.com the week of July 15th Circuit City will be selling PS3s' for $499.99, which is $100 less that the regular price. Another website, GameDaily BIZ, has reported that it will be a retail wide drop. Its just a rumor since Sony has not confirmed it officially, but E3 is this next week so if true it would probably be announced then.

If true I still don't think its worth getting yet.

The only game I am holding out for on the PS3 is LittleBigPlanet - nothing else even remotely interests me. At $499 it is still massively overpriced, I could care less about BluRay. I am amazed what a flop the PS3 has been - Sony has not had a good year, that's for sure.

Wouldn't that be cheap even for a stand alone blu-ray player? I read it just doesn't have a 'killer' game.

The PS2 got off to a slow start too, and gaming companies said it was "too complex". once they wrap their heads around the technology the games will come, and using the full muscle at that.

of course this means until then your stuck with a bluray DVD player that plays xbox 360 games.

hold out for the price to drop.. this time next year it be well worth having.

You gotta love a price drop only days after a very public denial by Sony that a price drop was coming any time soon. Of course, at the same time, they added a model with a larger hard drive (80 vs 60 gb) for the same price as the existing 60 gb model.

I wonder if Microsoft will follow suit and drop price on the Elite down to the existing non-Elite price of $399.

BTW, check out all the fanboy action in the comments on that article - it always amuses me how riled up people get over these game machines.

Hah, I was right - Microsoft also announced price cuts - the Elite drops to $399, Premium to $349 and Core to $249.

So what has essentially happened is that Sony, in their infinite wisdom, added a higher end model at $599 and dropped their current to $499. Microsoft's higher end model, which has a 120 gb hard drive (instead of 80 for the PS3) is still $200 cheaper now.

Cool Microsoft will soon have the new Xbox 360 consoles with the 65nm processor, thats what I've been waiting on. Maybe it'll solve my console freezing up problem.

If only Sony would now have a version with no Blueray player in it and it'll drop the price even further down and sell a hell of a lot better. The new 80GB PS3 will have software emulation for the PS2 games instead of hardware emulation which means it won't be able to play all PS2 games without an update.

I'd be happy if I could just find a Nintendo Wii to buy at the regular price!

My husband has been jonesing for one since they came out.

Neither of us cares for the PS3 or XBox 360. We mostly game on our PC's anyway.

Like it... hate it.... it still looks like a George Foreman grill.

Personally, the Wii is the only system I went out and bought. I'd like to love the PS3, but really... it's very hard to at that price and with that many failures.

I'm on the fence with regards to the 360. I'm still waiting for a proper Linu^H^H^H^H full computer mod for it, fixed hardware issues, and a better lineup outside of Halo.

I've had a Wii for several months and have enjoyed it, but I still play more Xbox 360 games since there are a lot more out there for it at the moment.

They are working on an Xbox 360 that has the 65nm processor which I believe will solve the hardware problems by making the console cooler and possibly even get rid of the "brick" power supply.

Mass Effect and Bioshock for the Xbox 360. Mass Effect, November 1st, comes from the makers of the Knights of the Old Republic games and Bioshock, August 21st, is the spiritual successor to the System Shock games. There is also Assassins Creed, which was once a PS3 exclusive, which comes out November 1st as well.

I forgot to mention Grand Theft Auto IV which comes out October 16th.

Meh. It is pretty, but I have never liked the series and it now looks like a Gears of War rip off. Also, Konami has stated they may need to take it to other platforms to recoup their costs - maybe that was just to scare Sony, who knows, but Sony has done a piss poor job of hanging onto exclusives. Unless you are a diehard fan of the series, I would say there are superior action and stealth experiences to be had in Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas on the XBOX 360.

Metal Gear Solid was the only game that tempted me to ever get a Playstation 2. My roommate had one and I hadn't yet finished the game by the time I kicked her out of my apartment.

(Solid Snake is hot, especially towards when you're getting low on health and his clothes fall off in conspicuous places... mmm....

Rumor has it that the Xbox 360 will drop $50.00 in August. That would make the core system the same price as the Nintendo Wii.
