It's a tiny little pet that follows you around, it's purely just a cute thing, it doesn't do anything or fight... but it IS adorable. It's normally a character or animal or creature from the campaigns. For example, I have a miniature Kirin which is a creature that appears in a quest from the Canthan campaign. Here's a picture of the Hydra one

Tyria is the first one, so just "Guild Wars". It doesn't effect your playing at all, it just means you can't leave the continent. It's definitely better to try picking up one, and then if you really like the game and get into it, get the others. Factions is second, that's Cantha, Nightfall is third and that's Elona. The fourth is an expansion, which only effects Tyria.

Really as far as playing with friends, it doesn't effect you at all. You just might start feeling claustrophobic after you beat the campaign and you feel like you've finished with it. You also level at different paces depending on which campaign you get. Factions levels you up incredibly fast, and you can be the same level as everyone else (20) in about 4 hours. Tyria and Elona give you far more ramp up time. Tyria takes the longest to level, in my experience. Once you reach level 20 though, every scrap of what makes you special is in the skill set you choose to use, how you use it, and the way you build your armor set. It does wonders to completely ruin the 14 year olds without lives domination of MMO's these days

I have Guild Wars & Factions and find it to be enjoyable but rather lonely as I have no friends, so I don't log in often due to that. I have the hardest time finding people to talk to there, maybe I just have bad luck.

Second Life and related tasks have also taken up most of my free time, I just sort of forgot about Guild Wars really. I'm all for logging in again though, my character is a level 20 Ele/Necro named Vae Lissa.

I have a Ranger, Warrior and Paragon all at 20 and just started a Mesmer in Prophecies (Tyria), gonna run him through all the areas in order Tyria, Cantha, Elona, EotN.

Mostly playing on Jiang Shou Tian my Barrage Ranger (R/E)

Are paragons worth it? I have one I never really got into playing, because I'm not a huge fan of the Elona campaign. I know they're big buffers, so are they pretty much a warrior monk?

I have an MM I like to take with my Nuker down to do Deeping runs, after that you could get your SS with my 55 and get some ecto for my FoW armor. That's after we get you infused, though.
