Looks like a combination of the games Wheelman and Stranglehold. I'll pre-order it next week.

And I just deleted Just Cause 2 on Steam the other day. I guess between now and August 14th I'll need to re-install it and play it some again. Luckily it uses Steam's Cloud Saving.

At one time the game was being developed as "True Crime: Hong Kong " by Activision but was cancelled and then Square Enix bought the rights to the game but didn't buy the rights to the name.

Joystiq has one going on right now but the little I've seen of it looks like the same thing they showed in the Machinma live stream.

JoyStream: Sleeping Dogs with senior producer Jeff O'Connell | Joystiq

In the Machinima one they mentioned other activities like Karaoke and being able to gamble in games like Mahjong but it won't be the real one like they play in casinos over there. Some of the people that had worked on the Need for Speed series did the driving part of the game and the hand-to-hand combat part was helped out by some who worked on Batman: Arkham City

There is already one review out from the Official Playstation Magazine UK which gave it a 9/10.

News: Sleeping Dogs review arrives: '2012's most brilliantly brutal surprise' - ComputerAndVideoGames.com

Quote:
Editor Ben Wilson describes Square's open world crime game as "the best bits of a load of games you love pooled together with intelligence and humour."

The review adds: "This is the game Saints Row has spent a decade desperate to be, a rollercoaster open-world adventure set in an environment that's fun to explore and doss about in, and packed to the brim with rousing missions, happy diversions and other amazing stuff."

OPM's review concludes: "It's unquestionably 2012's most brilliantly brutal surprise, and you're duty-bound to check it out".

I just watched a replay of a live stream that happened earlier today and it showed a mission where you go and take a picture of the sunset. When you get there it is at night but it then transitions to the sunset. It showed that when the picture was taken a drunk guy was posing for it and after it is uploaded you get a pop up that tells you to beat up the drunk. After doing so you get to take the picture again.

I'm almost done downloading and installing on Steam. Now I just need to find out how to get the HD Texture pack.

P.S. It's available through the Steam store page for the game. There are two other DLC one includes points for the Triad, Cop and Face XP. The other is a Retro Triad Pack that gives you clothing and hair that gives the player an 80's look. Both DLC costs $1.99 each and can be bought together for $3.98.

Hi Res
When did the pre-load start? I looked at Steam several times over the last few days but there was no mention of it.

Apparently the next Team Fortress 2 map is going to based on this game.

eta: Just realised this was already mentioned

And I think that it is already available.

P.S. I totally forgot that Darksiders 2 also comes out today but I think that this game might be more fun.

I played a little bit of it and it runs very well but had to turn down "Enable Quality Anti-Aliasing" from Extreme to High because the main character seemed to move slowly at times. The camera can be a bit wonky while on a motorcycle and the waypoint system didn't take me directly to where I targeted so I had to search a bit to find where I wanted to go. Maybe it was just for that one place. The hardest part is remembering is to drive on the left side of the road instead of the right.

I did the benchmark and got a Max of 80 fps and a min of 48 and that is I using the HD texture pack with everything maxed out except for the Quality Anti-aliasing which I put at the medium level and with Motion Blur turned off. You can set the maximum fps to different levels from as low as I believe 5 fps up to as much as the computer can handle. Later I am going to try the benchmark again with the fps level to 60 and see how it does.

seems a small number of people are having some issues with nvidia optimization for this game or HKSHIP.exe file.... i started a new game and all i saw was characters talking in rain with a blue background before it crashed 30 seconds into it..

A Quick Deletion and re-verify cache seemed to have worked for me..

Other then that i'm having a a blast Fighting people and playing both sides to the story.... Only thing that bugs me now is that i'm not use to driving on the left side of the road.

Same here and every time that I get into a vehicle I have to think about it briefly. I just don't have to think about it in other games but it is nice that they do it this way in this game since that is how they drive in Hong Kong since it was a British colony at one time.

Last night I just drove around to some of the Health Shrines that popped up on the map after the first date which apparently is the last date with that one character.

I haven't had much trouble with the driving. I was used to driving on the "wrong" side of the road in Saints Row 2 on purpose for oncoming lane and near misses.

Patch Notes:

• Fixed several bugs where NPCs would not path through doors properly – this corrects the issue where Naz stops running in the first mission of the game
• Added HD Textures for UI screens (only available with the free HD Texture Pack DLC installed)
• Improvements made to reduce the frequency of erroneous “don’t lose your target” warnings in missions where you are chasing an NPC
• Significant improvements to mouse support on various options screens
• New Keyboard/Mouse option which makes the keyboard & mouse the only input devices even if a controller is connected
• Several minor text bugs corrected
• Fixed an issue where mouse clicks would sometimes be ignored in the UI
• Fixed the keyboard and mouse camera controls in the Phone Tracing minigame
