Mass Effect 3

Well, I have only been playing for about an hour, but so far, I am loving it. It had one hell of an opening sequence, that is all I will say.

I went with the PC version instead of the PS3 version after all. While I played the first two on the XBOX 360, I decided to try it on the PC this time around. Yes, I know the controversy about Origin, but I already own several Origin games anyway so it wasn't a huge deal to me.

I haven't played it enough to know what is improved/different, but so far, it is gorgeous. The animation is uncanny.

I played the demo, so I remember the opening sequence very well - incredible. Unfortunately, I have to wait until Friday for my copy (UK release date).

Anyone with an iOS device: there's an optional accompanying game called ME3: Infiltrator which just launched on the app market. I'm probably going to wait until I've started ME3 to try it, but playing it will add to your Galactic Readiness in ME3.

Had my teen stand in line at midnight to grab my copies, but he got to play first as payment. I'll be getting my time in hopefully tomorrow, can't wait to try some multiplayer and start leveling up.

Mass Effect 3 figures to come with multiplayer DLC | PC Gamer

Quote:
It looks like Mass Effect 3′s multiplayer mode will be getting extra DLC after launch, and Bioware will be offering a new way to get it. A series of toy store adverts spotted on Eurogamer show off a series of Mass Effect figures. Each one comes with a code that will unlock extra bits and pieces for Mass Effect 3′s new co-op mode.

The randomised codes “could include powerful new weapons and new characters,” according to a post on the Bioware store, or they could contain “character boosters, weapon modifications, and weapon upgrades to make your multi-player squad stronger.”

The four figures can be pre-ordered ahead of shipment in April/May for $75.on the Bioware site. The Big Bad Toy Store has eight figures listed available for $17.99 each including Shepard, Tali, Thane, Garrus, Legion, Miranda, Mordin and Grunt.

Some of us are also trying our hardest to not get it at all until EA stops dicking around with Steam.

@Cris:
if the graphic comparison between the PS3 Demo, and the PC ME2 holds, you did much better getting the PC version on that front alone, assuming you have a decent graphic card.

me personally I don't have the fine motor control for playing most FPS with those knubby little joysticks and absolutely adore the freedom of scalable fine control with a mouse.plus the extra mapable actions means I spend less time menu paused. here's hoping you find it similarly liberating =)

I'm getting ME3 through PSN since I had already pre-ordered through it but it's a slow download probably because other people are on PSN getting it too.

The one question about the game that I really want to know: Is Planet Scanning still there? I hope not.

It has been completely revamped from ME2 and is not nearly as tedious. You have the ability to scan with a type of sonar, but each time you use it, it alerts the reapers to your presence. If they become alerted, they will chase you and you have to get out before they kill you.

I liked how they did it in the first one. You actually went down to the planet or moon and went to it but of course then you didn't use it for much of anything.

I'm now at 80% download. I should be done by the time I have to leave which means I'll be playing it later tonight.

Annoyed.

In order to not lose your mind and bang your head on the keyboard in frustration you need to play multiplayer as it effects your single player game.

Meh. I'm not bothered by the coop options. I plan to give it a try even though I'm shit at multiplayer shooters.

so it's really only there to guilt you into doing more MultiPlayer vs SinglePlayer? or does it cap on the MP side too, guilting you into doing both? either way, good to know it's not a necessary mechanic.

although I actually liked in ME2 that they sucker punched you with completion stats, rather than displaying them... but I'm a completionist player, so nailed it first time.

@Chris:
so I'm curious, how are you finding the differences in play style in console vs PC?

Effectively, yeah.... to get the optimal endings you had to do a certain amount of back work in getting people with certain skills and doing their loyalty missions. This wasn't shown to you (hence the sucker punch), but it went into all the calculations for how the endgame played out... there's charts for it all based on who you got, how they were used, how loyal they were.

now you get a progress bar to tell you if you are doing it right.

You didn't get graphs and numbers, but I thought it was all pretty well telegraphed.

I mean, anybody who put Zaeed in charge of the second team should know what would happen!

(hint: every one of Zaeed's war stories ends with "... and then everyone died. But me.")

I got everything in ME2 except for the one for saving all of the crew members because I had one more loyalty mission to finish when the Collectors abducted half the ship, and you can only save everybody if you leave for the final battle right away.

I don't know about "you had no way of knowing," I'd figured out stuff like the ship upgrades and the loyalty missions having an impact on the ending right away. Assigning the squads was also pretty easy. I only looked at a guide at the end because I wanted to see if saving that lesbian secretary was possible or her death was written into the story.
