I've been up for two days playing Kingdoms of Amalur. Somebody called and asked what I was doing and I said "Bashing Fairies with a hammer". It took a couple minutes to explain the game.

Surely it would have been much more fun to NOT explain? I *do* love when people ask what I'm up to. Especially non gamers:

"Running like fuck. I tried to slaughter a mammoth for it's tusks and this giant took exception"

"Crashing into asteroids to try and make myself bigger"

"Running round a cruise liner trying to figure out which one of these bitches is trying to kill me"

"Trying to figure out the best way to wrap a penguin"

"Attempting to stop a tsunami with lava"

I see you that addiction and raise you. I actually bought THE SAME GAME I already own on Steam because I didn't look at my library, and it was available as part of a bundle with some DLC.

Steelport has the opposite rule.

I'm re-installing GTA IV but not to try the iCEnhancer mod since you have to basically jump through hoops to get it to work.

That evil thing made me change from Pentium D to a Quad....From a Geforce 9 series to a 570 GTX....

And when i go to play...finally thinking that freezing/stutter is something from a nightmare past....that blasted copy protection (SecureRom or something) gives back an error...

IT MADE MY EYES BLEED I TELL YA!

On other related news...i am replaying Dragon Ages Origins....and...go fig...The Sims 3.....what is next??? Spores?

As for Skyrim...i got tired of being an errand boy...Damn those "Radiant" quests.

I've gone back to playing Star Trek Online since it's gone 'free to play'. The F2P restrictions are surprisingly light, you can still play all the actual content of the game, you just have fewer inventory and bank slots and can't make Foundry/player-created missions. The majority of the stuff in the c-store are things like new spiffy ships and races and uniforms that have no or very little bearing on actual gameplay.

Meanwhile, I come across what I hope is a strangely advanced alien civilization...

I wish more character options from Brotherhood were in the Assassin's Creed Revelations multiplayer. They made so many improvements to the way it plays I love it, but I really miss my Hellequin and my Thief. The Courtesan isn't enough .

C9 Online, although I've been playing it sparsely since the test began, is fun.

I am VERY happy to have been wrong about sheeple just accepting another Zynga ripoff. Dream Heights is getting a total trashing in the app store ratings and reviews.

GOOD.

I haven't been in game since it went F2P and it has some new features it didn't have before. Mainly the Duty Officer System.

Quote:
Star Trek has always been about people coming together in times of stress and crisis to create solutions to problems. Much like the real world, many of the problems in Star Trek canít be solved by simply charging up oneís phaser banks, and so we wanted to find a way to represent this side of Star Trek in the game.

The Duty Officer System brings these previously unnamed and unsung junior officers to the captain's attention. You can now recruit duty officers, select which will be posted on active duty, and assign others to myriad tasks both mundane and important.

Starting shortly after you are promoted to Lieutenant Commander, you will receive your first set of duty officers. Additional duty officers can be gained in many ways during the game, including spending time at Starfleet Academy or the Klingon Academy. If you get impatient, you can also gain additional random sets of duty officers from the C-Store, or actively trade with other players to improve your crew.

Duty officers can be used in one of two ways:

First, you have a certain number of slots that you can fill with duty officers to enhance the effectiveness of your captain, both in space and on the ground. Duty officers may provide static bonuses or have a chance of providing a more significant bonus under certain circumstances. For example, a duty officer with the Security specialization has a chance of providing you with additional backup whenever you activate Security Escort, or a gravimetric scientist might creating additional gravity wells when your science officer creates a gravitational anomaly in space.

Second, you can place your duty officers on assignments. Different assignment can be found on board your ship and in many sectors. Every assignment has a set of requirements, from necessary specializations (for example, Energy Weapons Officer) to commodities (for example, Astrometric Probes). If you choose to perform an assignment, you allocate the appropriate members of your duty roster to the task and then after a set amount of time (which depends on the assignment and can range from minutes to days), you return to your duty roster to see the results of the assignment.

It is intended to be as simple as it sounds, but getting the most from each assignment requires careful planning. Many assignments reward you for better combinations of duty officers, and the chance of a "normal success" versus a "critical success" is something you can manipulate according to which officers you choose to place on the assignment.

Zynga got out what may be the quickest update ever for a game just after I posted, mostly, presumably, to try to bury the reviews behind the 'previous versions' button.

Don't think it's gonna work

The annoying thing is, Apple have collaborated with the likes of Atari to remove a whole bunch of indie games from the App Store that Atari deemed clones - even when some really weren't direct clones. Yet they're happy to let Zynga piss all over an indie developer with a shameless copy... even though Apple awarded the original game 'Game Of The Year'.

Which is why I'm very happy that joe public are having a bit of a revolt on the app store about it

The Duty Officer system is fun and addicting, but it changed recently and you get your first 'pack' at Lieutenant 7 (rather than Lieutenant Commander 11) so you can be dealing with your pokemon in under an hour if you want.

You can do things like send them off to summits, or inspect passing freighters, or simply realign the warp engines on your ship. And each mission gives you some experience and bridge officer points (you can theoretically level up just via this if you wanted) as well a 'commendation xp' in areas such as Exploration, Diplomacy, Trade, etc which unlock titles and other little bonuses as they're gained.

Also Cryptic has added a 'shooter mode' to ground missions which is kind of a pseudo-third-person-shooter toggle. Along with the 'ground 2.0' changes that were made to make fights faster it's a lot less tedious than the old-style fights with Romulans that would heal themselves for 10 minutes.

My take on a 25th-century Starfleet uniform (and my captain because Bajorans are cool):

That has been in the game for about 6 months and it made ground combat much better. Still not as good as the ship combat but still an improvement.

All of my PC games now play very well after upgrading to the 560 GTX from a 9800 GT, even GTA IV. It's probably overkill but I also now have 16GB of RAM with heat spreader on them.

This week, I have been playing Star Legends mobile MMO on my ZTE Skate.

This isnt me.

Im some funny little healer blokey. Quite enjoying it.

After hearing how long its going to take to level up in GW2, after 10-15 years of playing MMO's, I am now certain I am never going to play a mainstream MMO again.
