Arrow All things SW:TOR

As we draw closer to the go-live of SW:TOR, I was thinking we should have an all encompassing thread to discuss the new game and all of the trappings that go along with it.

Jump in with your take on the beta weekend(s) you were involved in, list any good informational sites that you have come across, or just discuss the guild you are going to have once the game goes live.
  • What class of toon are you going to roll first?
  • What type of server (PvP, PvE, RP) do you plan to roll on?
  • What kind of guild (raiding, casual, leveling, etc.) are you planning on joining or creating?
  • Is your guild going to have open (anyone) or limited (selected few) enrollment?

Share your guild information, screenshots, guild website/blog, SW:TOR guild site, etc.

1) Sith Inquisitor - Assassin
2) PvE
3) Casual/Leveling
4) Open

And here is a lame recruitment "poster" that I created a while back (all I had was a low-grade graphics program, so no laughing! ). I need to make some better ones soon.

Not only does the the weekend test ends on Sunday at 11:59pm CST but the full test program ends as well. Then it's 10 days til the Early Access. This has to be one of the better betas I have been in and I've been in quite a few.

If mousie and I get this (the hell are we kidding, we're so getting it eventually ) i imagine:

1) either a Bounty Hunter - Mercenary or an assorted force user
2) PvE
3) Guildless to start with
4) If we do join one probably closed membership to close friends

Of course we may well end up with another less exclusive guild too seeing as you can have more than one guild with different characters

I was actually quite hoping to see a Sith Assassin class in the game; not talking about the inquisitor advanced class, but the assassins we learned about in KOTOR2 (Atton Rand for example) who were trained to suppress the force and use mind games to avoid being detected or influenced by jedi. I thought that was a very interesting idea and had hoped to see them make a return in SWTOR (unless of course, the imperial agents incorporate this?)

I kept myself in media blackout mode for TOR and now I'm regretting it, I think. No beta signup, no reading of discussion threads, no youtube videos, no nothing.

I was going to play a jedi but now I hear the trooper is Commander Frakking Shepard. Now I can't decide!

  • What class of toon are you going to roll first?
Sith Inquisitor, with Imperial Agent and Smuggler alts.
  • What type of server (PvP, PvE, RP) do you plan to roll on?
RP, I always roll on RP-servers if only given a chance. Server-choice will hang heavily on if I manage to coordinate all my friends on one or if I have to make my alts on separate servers or what. This is always a headache.
  • What kind of guild (raiding, casual, leveling, etc.) are you planning on joining or creating?
Starting as guildless, will see about joining depending how things go -- and if I find a fitting one, of course.

Try both for like... five to ten levels. By that point you pretty much know how they fight and more importantly, what the character concept and story is like.

Also, I must say that although I'm pretty much the last person to ever roll a military character, the trooper storyline was insanely captivating and I was all a-squee about it and had a blast. I was really surprised. Not because I wouldn't trust Bioware's writing, but because my own personal preferences tend to be all about rogueness between the lines instead of military discipline and principles. So much kudos to the writing team!

Sith Inquisitor - Sorcerer.. have to be a total shit in these games. Ranged DPS suits me. Always Horde, always Empire!

PvP. As much as I don't like being ganked it did make the whole experience, especially in wow, more intense.

Don't know about a guild..

I tend to really only enjoy raids the first time. I'll just be casual levelling and PvP and do the raid tour.

I still don't fully know what to expect out of this game yet. so my game plan may be a lot different once I get to try the game.

I'm prolly going to have one of each just to see the storylines, but my mains will probably be Trooper on Republic side and Sith Warrior on the Empire, with Bounty Hunter being a third main...had a lot of trouble deciding between the two after Beta Testing.

Will play on a PVE-RP server hopefully with some friends of mine from other games. We try to game together when we can if we are all playing the same games, and since we met in SWG, we'll probably reform our old guild here!

I found a youtube vid of a collage of all the class... intros? backgrounds? thingies. Based on that I am playing Trooper and Imperial Agent so hard.

I seriously got a Mass Effect "We fight for the lost" vibe from the Trooper section. Having her actually be voiced by Shepard cinched the deal.

I found the start of the Trooper story to be a little boring but had fun blasting, so stuck it out.. but after the first plot twist in the story it got extremely exciting. Can't wait to see how that plays out!

Gods damn it!

I was NOT gonna be getting this game. Then you lot got all enthusiatic and now I almost missed an appointment (and did miss an entire night's sleep) cos of it. I think this was because I chose Smuggler and wanted to see what ships were like. So I had to chase my enemy all over Ord Mandell then Coruscant then finally got it around level 13. Thing is, even through all the frustration of traveling time sinks, I loved it. I really hated my enemy simply because of the run around he was giving me and when there was one chance to fight him and the story didn't let you I was yelling at my screen "NOOOOOOOOOOO -LET ME KILL HIM!!!" Also tried Warrior and was a right evil, snobbish, thoroughly condescending bastid. Even to the extent or saying "Rise weakling" when I rezzed a group member after they died

Bad Points:
-Coruscant. So. Much. Running.
-Space Combat was a little arcadey but was fun none the less. And I sooooooooooo want an inquisitor ship

Good Points:
-Ran smoothly
-Fantastic stories and the voice overs make fedex and kill X of Y missions a lot more palatable
-Graphics are actually ok. The city/landscapes are particularly well done
-Addictiveness is up there with anything else I played. Just not sure about replay value (the convos could get very tiring 2nd time around)

So.... ummmmm, anyone know if you get an "orbital bombardment" ability with ships? I have a hankering to visit Naboo

The Bounty Hunter has some pretty good and funny lines. He can be quite cheeky at times and say it with a straight face.

The good thing about doing a lot of running around in SWTOR is that while you are doing so you can send Companions off on their Crew Skill missions.

There has been some talk of later on putting in a more robust Space Combat system possibly similar to the X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter game.

That reminded me of a run I was doing of the flashpoint for The Black Talon.

We got a good group together, but one of the members kept freezing at the worst times, then would disconnect at the oddest times. So, finally after a few incidents that were too time consuming for a testing weekend, I booted the person.

Another member of the group made a comment about me being a true Sith because of my unwillingness to help the weak.

I could only agree and proceeded to find another person.

The Sith have no time for weakness (or in this case, a shitty connection to the game or a PC unable to handle the game).

From the forums:

Quote:
Greetings testers, Republic and Empire alike!

To celebrate the end of testing for Star Wars: The Old Republic, tonight at 11:30PM CST on every server, on the game’s Capital Worlds (Coruscant and Dromund Kaas), we invite everyone currently in testing (ie, playing this weekend) to a giant Star Wars dance off!

Where: On every active server - on Coruscant, in the Senate Plaza; on Dromund Kaas, within Kaas City.

When: From 11:30PM CST (9:30PM PST; 12:30AM EST; 5:30AM GMT; 6:30AM CET) until server maintenance begins (currently scheduled for 11:59PM CST). The event may be shortened depending on server performance.

Why: For fun! This is purely a social event allowing players to get together, to mix and mingle and see testing off in style. Get your /dance command ready!

Please note: If you wish to join the dance party with your friends, please ensure you’re together in a group before travelling to your Capital World. Without being grouped, you may find yourself in different phases due to the high number of players present.

Pictures from the end of beta event.

My Chiss Bounty Hunter getting his groove on. Who knew that a big bad Bounty Hunter could dance?

One problem I found that stuck out to me was that when I dance my Companion does not. I need to suggest it.

P.S. A thread on the SWTOR beta test forums started about it not long after the end of beta. So maybe the developers will notice it and do something about it.

This sucks! I just got an E-mail telling me that I need to uninstall the beta client but they said just last week not to uninstall it since this would be the launch client.

I got the same thing, so I'm glad that I never got around to re-installing after my last beta weekend removal.

Yeah I know I posted something similair on another thread but then today I got an E-mail from them telling me that the beta test was over and then it told me to uninstall it. Then re-install when they say that it is available. I haven't uninstalled it yet so I am going to wait and see if that E-mail was sent in error.
