The scheduled 1.1 Update: Rise of the Rakghouls has been postponed due to bugs found in the Public Test Server.

Quote:
Hello everyone!

Because we care about ensuring that Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ provides you with a consistent and quality game play experience, we will be postponing weekly maintenance this week. Downtime was originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 from 2AM CST (12AM PST/3AM EST/8AM GMT/9AM CET) to 10AM CST (8AM PST/11AM EST/4PM GMT/5PM CET) and will now occur at a later date due to issues requiring additional testing that have been discovered with the Game Update 1.1 content on the Public Test Server.

These issues were primarily brought to our attention by the diligent players on the Public Test Server Forums. Your participation in testing helps to improve the game as a whole, and we appreciate your discussion and feedback. The bug reports you provide are a valuable part of the development process. Thank you!

We’re working hard to bring you Game Update 1.1: Rise of the Rakghouls and are working hard to ensure your overall experience with Star Wars: The Old Republic is spectacular! The maintenance window for Game Update 1.1 will be rescheduled for some time within the next few days, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. When there’s a definite time, we will post here on the Community Blog as well as on the Official Forums. Please keep your eye out for updates, and we will provide information as soon as it’s available.
January 17th Scheduled Maintenance: Postponed | Star Wars: The Old Republic

Patch notes:

Rise of the Rakghouls | Star Wars: The Old Republic

Design Notes - Game Update 1.1 | Star Wars: The Old Republic

Quote:
This first Game Update will show everyone how serious we are about expanding Star Wars: The Old Republic, and there’s much more to come. We have another major update planned for March and future content arriving throughout 2012 and 2013. We plan to release new Operations, Flashpoints, Warzones, Space Missions, single player content, vehicles, and companion characters. We’ll always be improving our existing game with additions like guild banks, PVP ranked matches and interface customization. Our Legacy system expands in March, bringing more options and a new level of depth to the existing character classes.

Our Game Updates will also include bug fixes, balance changes, performance improvements and exploit-proofing based on your feedback. We review reports from the community every day and compare them to gameplay metrics, QA bugs and our own experiences in the live game—where we’re playing right alongside you. Although we already address critical issues during our weekly updates, the major Game Updates will implement some of the most sweeping changes and fixes.

Expect a few surprises between these Game Updates, too. You never know when the Republic might strike Dromund Kaas, if a mysterious alien fleet could appear in the Core Worlds… or when the Rakghoul plague of Taris might infect the rest of the Galaxy. Changes are coming, and they’ll affect everyone.

We fully intend to support Star Wars: The Old Republic—and our players—for many years to come.
Yay for interface customization!

What an awesome time to shut the servers down for several hours maintenance.

Yeah this is apparently what the game looks like if you play Republic in Illum:

Get ready to be outnumbered 5 to 1 by Sith Inquisitors

Wow, that's insane! I would hope they're going to roll back people's valor they gained from that.

I heard the rumor going around about not to play pvp cause valor would get rolled back.... is there any confirmation that they are going to do it?

I had a good time playing Huttball with all the lvl 50s gone during US prime-time last night...

There's allot of people reporting bugs tho.. For their first update, i don't think it's going so well..

From the official forums:

Quote:
Regarding Valor gains, with the 1.1 update, players now receive a base reward of 20 Valor per unique enemy player defeated in a short time, and this base reward is modified by the number of objectives that the player’s faction owns. The gains are rate limited per player killed, encouraging players to attack unique players, not to pursue vendettas. The Valor gains players can see over time will vary greatly depending on the activity level in the zone. This is expected.

To dispel a couple of rumors that have been seen today – there is no Valor gain from destroying turrets within enemy bases, and none from killing NPCs
.

I think a few of the first ones for WoW usually broke something that was working fine before as have some other MMOs. At least they are doing this pretty quickly.

P.S. How have you gotten into the official forums? I've been in a queue for about 15 minutes just for the website.

Oh? I missed that as I didn't PvP at all yesterday. I would check the BW forum but it seems to be dead too. What was the buggy?

Personally, I really disagree with the way they handle the forums.

What's the compelling reason to keep shutting it down to read-only or even "queued" for that matter? Why should anyone ever have to queue to read a web page?

From what I've read they want to eventually keep the forums up when the game is down. I just wish they would say why they do it now. So there must be some reason why they can't do it now. It still sucks though.

P.S. Looks like the queue is gone.

The servers are back up.

PvP fixes in patch 1.1.0a:

Quote:
PvP

  • Ilum

    • Players can no longer enter the opposing faction’s safe base area, thus preventing players from continually "camping" the other faction's base.
    • Turrets inside faction bases were not intended to be destroyed and are now immune to damage.
    • The population cap for instances of Ilum has been reduced to improve performance.
    • Implemented optimizations to improve performance on Ilum.

Video of upcoming content and game systems which includes Guild Banks, expanded Legacy System and UI customization. The UI customization just consists of being able to move and re-size it. The new content Rise of the Rakghouls is just part 1 and part 2 will come later.

I need to work on a few things, but you can always sign up for our Guild Site: gs.cultoftheblackorchid.com

Good names to look for, other than Edav's name:

Caffian
Heavenhill
Nyma
Captcha
Aeremis
Shylo

Or do a /who and look up "Cult of the Black Orchid" or just "Cult" and ask around for Kavik or Taco or Edav and you can get an invite. All members have the ability to do a /ginvite.

I got Seyla in the Guild earlier today as a Recruit. I couldn't change the rank though.

Once I can get my PC parts back from RMA'ing them to newegg, and I get back in game, I'll work on setting some people up with the ability to invite and change rank.

Things I learned today:

Hard Mode is well-named.
Actually, it's not as bad as it sounds. Black Talon went well for me right up to the final boss, who showed me an interesting (read "Ouch!") new move, and basically cost me the credits for completion in armour repair bills. Definitely an educational run.

The last boss in hard mode Black Talon finally made me realize that perhaps the few heartbeats that I normally don't notice in lag and latency -do- matter.

Also, be grateful that they finally fixed the last boss of the Foundry. Random 70k damage in hard mode was.... painful.
