So, here is one of my (least) favorite things:

Quote:
Whisper 1: dick
Whisper 2: wtf dick
Whisper 3: you stole my name
Says the person that is 36 levels lower than me.

/me - click ignore

I'm fairly certain that if we do the math, and apply a time line to it, you'll notice that since I am 36 levels higher than you - I made my toon first!

/end rant

So the battle.net website is up and I can log in (after resetting my password since I haven't played WoW in years) but I can't get to account management and apparently that's the only way to download the client now.

Misc Guide from a PermaNub

So after talking with Brenda about her particular tastes and challenges with WoW I had a few thoughts on how to gear your toon efficiently and effectively.

Tonight with my guild, there were three of us on so we ran 4-5 random Scenarios in about an hour and a half. Random scenarios upon completion give you some gold, Valor points, and a box to open, inside the box is more gold, and often a piece of gear that you could conceivably use. As in, your class could use it. (I'm hopelessly overgeared for Scenarios so it made our progress faster.)

Benefits to the guild were 250 gold to the guild bank, but we're a 25 so not sure if it's gold and XP to an under 25 guild. A number of guild achievements, etc.

Now three random toon players are easier to toss together than a guild tank, a guild healer, and three guild DPS to avoid the nerd raging randomess of a Heroic PUG. (Maximum stupid seems to be in a PUG, you'd think Looking For Raid, but nope, seems the PUGs win for both stupid and for randomly fun people.)

The guild member who actually needed gear, got two helmets, a spellcaster and a melee for his druid, so yeah, if you've ever two friends on, do a random Scenario. They can be tough without gear in the first place, but three patient people who know each other enough to laugh at some wipes and general brain farts without losing their shit.

A Scenario is also a great place to actually practice group roles, say, Tanking and Healing especially. If you actually do end up with a solid guild core with a tank and a healer, you can go on to heroics without fear, because nobody boots the tank, much less the tank AND the healer.

Another interesting thing in patch 5.2 to pay special attention to is championing a faction. Open up your reputation panel and the Pandaria factions that have a star beside them, are ones you can select. Your first Scenario and/or Heroic random (Not sure if it's one or both) of the day bags you bonus Rep with the faction.

Another thing is the price of the patch 5.0 and 5.1 gear has dropped dramatically in valor point cost!

So, here's my suggestion for your fresh level 90 toon.
  • Select Golden Lotus to champion, they open the doors to other options.
  • Do Scenarios, if you have the chops for potential nerd rage idiots, go it alone or in pairs. If you need patient people around you, go with friends. Do them Random style for the Valor and the loot drops. Do Golden Lotus dailies with the same bunch of people.
  • Learn what the Golden Lotus Quartermaster can offer you. You'll be geared up nice in a week or four depending on how often you do that.
  • Klaxxi normal quests gets you to about Honored Reputation without the dailies at all. That opens up some nifty Valor gear right away, and remember, the price has gone down.
  • If you hear a group forming for the Sha of Anger, get into that group. Even if you suck hard at WoW. Loot the Sha's body for a quest item that will get you a great pair of boots. If the Sha combat goes well, it's in and done in 20 minutes.

And of course, if available, I'll join up for heroics, looking for raid, scenarios, even dailies.

Had to start an entirely new account to get to the client download screen, but I finally got it done.

Figured I'd try a race I've played before first to experience the Cataclysm changes. Draenei area seems similar so far but I haven't played a shaman before so Jhaele is still pretty fun:

I hope I got the server right, I'm on Grizzly Hills. And I don't think I can whisper anyone on a trial account unless they add me as a friend.

There's an addon for making the lives of F2P toons easier:

F2PAddon - Chat & Communication - World of Warcraft Addons - Curse

It was designed with the F2P community on Aerie Peak in mind but it's not specific to them.

If people with paid accounts are running it and turn on the invite portion it makes it possible to build groups for Dungeon Finder and BGs. I only vaguely interact with the Aerie Peak F2P community because they are pretty annoying but if we could get some people running it on GH I'd make a toon and pop in once in a while.

I don't necessarily have an issue with buying Cataclysm/Pandaria if I end up getting back into WoW. That's what, $60 or so? Not exactly pocket change, but it won't put me in the eating ramen for a week basket either.

My main worry is that I tend to get really, really into MMOs. Get home from work and spend the rest of the day on them type of thing. And I'm not sure I need that right now.

Hi Seyla. The server is Grizzly Hills, but the guild we have there (Missing Image) is horde. P2, Sansarya, Kavik, Brenda and I all play on that server. If you make a horde toon there I'd be happy to help any way I can. We're busiest after 9pm EST.

Well I guess I'm trying goblins then! Maybe Hunter so I can roll around with a rifle and a pet bigger than me.

The goblin starting area is a lot of fun. Blizzard pulled out all the weirdness stops with it. Enjoy!

The new island with the new factions is bananas! There are tons of mobs, the hit pretty hard, have a lot of HP (I do everything Holy so it takes a while), and nevre drop aggro. All that being said since I missed playing right after the servers opened in Mists came out, it is a nice feeling. The rep rolls in pretty fast too.

I didn't warm to the new continent immediately... but once I got past the entry-zone (The Jade Forest), it got a lot more interesting =)

I think the starting area for 85+ is more challenging than the rest of pandaria. I've enjoyed the new content though, and for the most part. with only a couple of exceptions, it's very pretty.

While most of us are on Horde I do have my Other Account and I can put a new Ally on it in case you want company

edit to add: if you are on goblin just holler at us as soon as you hit Org

I was worried I was too sleepy/sick to be useful but I'd still love to come along! I am going to try to get out of work before too late tonight and will stick my head in as soon as I can get home.

I made a blood elf death knight on Grizzly Hills named Azuro. My battle.net tag is over to the left - could someone invite me to the guild if they are around? I tried to find the guild in the massive list, but it is not sortable.

I've mostly played Alliance characters since I tend to gravitate to the goody-two-shoes type of characters in games. None of the Horde races ever really 'grabbed' me (trolls and blood elves came close though) but I absolutely love the 'goblins as wacky inventors' meme.
