Business: Eclectic Randomness | What does "DDO" stand for? I never heard of it.

Run!!!
| I was in beta for a while but it got tiresome trying to find a group to adventure with. When FTP was announced, I was talked into giving it another go. Honestly? I dislike it still. Most of the quests really need more than one person and none of the hirelings have been worth all the money they cost. I belong to a guild that gathers a few times a week to adventure, but I can't get out of stormreach with enough experience or cash to move on successfully unless I spend RL$ on the game (which goes against the FTP principle; I don't even spend RL$ in SL for anything anymore). If you find an active guild with members who can play when you're able to play and have a wide enough variety of levels so you can participate, go for it. I've tried to find people outside of the guild to adventure with when I log in, but I'm pretty tired of fighting, casting spells, taking damage and using my resources while they run around snatching all the loose gold and treasure. Going by yourself isn't much better (though many adventure support "solo" mode), it's like running randoms by yourself: Bleech. Also, just because you play and understand the 4th edt rule set doesn't mean DDO will always make sense. It's still a computer version of the rule books and has to be reinterpreted to fit the medium.

My Mood: | I played when it first came out. Got to max level in a week or so and then got bored. I was curious when it went F2P, but after seeing how the micro-transactions are setup, no thank you. It is not much different than a subscription, just that you pay to level up (or I think that you still can get a subscription?) |

My Mood: SL Join Date: 12/2006 | I played it in Beta and for 2 weeks afterwards. I maxed 5 characters and then went "This is the lamest conversion of Dungeons and Dragons EVER" First off, why is my Warforged drowning? He's a fucking construct which last I checked....don't need to breathe. (So your little poison gas bullshit is out too). It's missing core races. Half Elf, Halfling, Half Orcs, Shifters, Kalashtar. Where the fuck are they? When you boneheads at Turbine decided to introduce a race what did you pick? Oh yeah the Drow. Great, so now we have NINETY FUCKING MILLION assholes with some form of Drizzt in their name. I swear to god I want to nut punch RA Salvatore every time I see one. It's missing core weapons, pole arms, slings, and a whole lot more. It has solo content. And before any of you fuckers start crying about how you don't like playing with others. STFU and go play a different game. Do you know what we call people who play Dungeons and Dragons by themselves? Sad, Lonely, and possibly insane. D&D in it's very fucking nature is a group goddamn activity. The assholes forgot a core class too. Druid. Why? Was it too hard to figure out? Couldn't nerf it down into retard-mmo terms? It uses D&D 4th Edition. In order for you to understand my loathing of D&D 4th edition I am going to compare them to people you knew in school. AD&D (2nd Edition): The kid who was really really good at math and a total nerd D&D 3rd edition/3.5 Edition: The kid who was a geek, but got along with just about everybody D&D 4th Editon: The kid who sat in the chair with his special diaper and helmet while drooling while trying to break the wall via headbutting. It finally happened. The MMO crowd has grown so absolutely retarded it's started to dumb down regular pen and paper RPG's. Why? Because there are no fucking arrows pointing you where you're supposed to go on a quest. You have to actually use your goddamn brain and read stuff and problem solve. Apparently though that was too fucking hard. /rant

My Mood: | DDO shouldn't have been approved for release. Its just not possible to translate the pen and paper version to a typical MMO. You loose everything that makes D&D fun. But regardless, it was released and D&D was butchered in the process. |
