There isn't a frickin' "Knock" spell in the game either. Forgodsakes, I can call down the horror of fire and lightning but I can't break a lock open??

Dear Squishy Mage.

I am in plate armor, with a shield and a sword. Why would you run inbetween me and the big scary Darkspawn?

Confused: Dancien

I just realized that I have put in about 16 hours playing Dragon Age but of course a good bit of that time was doing all of the origin stories. As well as finishing both of the DLC quests. Its been a long time since I've put that much time into a single-player game, not even Oblivion.

Shale, the Stone Golem companion you get for having the "Stone Prisoner" DLC is also one of the best and toughest companions you can get. He makes a pretty good tank.

Are they very different from one another, or are they just slight variations on a general story?

Yes they are different from each other. Different enough to play all of them IMO.

I have a nice heal spell, a couple of stuns, a group heal and a regen spell. Why do you run off into the crowd of evil bloodsucking darkspawn where I can't heal you and then cry about it when you die?

Not only that, but you can play your same character differently too. The dialog options (and high levels of cunning and coercion) can give you different outcomes and even new achievements just by using persuasion or intimidation.

As I understand it (someone correct me if I'm wrong):

Intimidation = strength + coercion
Persuasion = cunning + coercion

It could be that cunning works for Intimidation too, but I lost the source where I read that.

The cuntmonglers at the local game store lost my pre-order reservation for the CE. And I refuse to settle for the regular version (unless they end up giving it to me for free or something), so I'm still waiting They were going to do whatever it takes to get me another CE, but it might be next thursday at least until I have it.

Importing is kind of shite. Import taxes, VAT backpayments, plus the customs offices are known to have several weeks backlog most of the time so games arrive with 6 weeks delay.

Amazon Germany is the only one where I don't have that trouble with customs etc. But they sell the German version of the game, and that's entirely in German + it's censored according to German law (I'm guessing they removed the gore and blood). I guess I could order the uncut (import) version through Amazon.de but then I still don't know how long it will take and they only have the regular in uncut version, not the CE.

Last edited by Eirik; 11-08-2009 at 10:35 AM. Reason: my estimate was 3 weeks, but checked with a local friend who orders from Amazon.com regularly

Yeah, it took me awhile to figure that out as well. At first I thought that they were on a timer.

This game is pretty close to being like an MMO. It would have made a pretty good one. Maybe they'll bring this time of story immersion to Star Wars: The Old Republic and if so it could finally give WoW some competition.

It's funny ... I tend to solo most MMOs, and so this feels like I am playing one too. The thing I miss is not being able to chat with friends in game. I think it would be neat if they added that. And of course, it would also be cool if you could meet friends in your camp and put together a party. The ability to pause the game could not be available when playing together. But it would be less necessary. Anyway, I love the game as it is

This thread piqued my interest ... it looks amazing.
Soooo, the game is downloading as we speak. I'm hoping installation goes smoothly so I can play later tonight

I can do that, sort of, since I have the Xbox 360 version and I have at least two friends there that have the game but it wouldn't be quite the same.

Except for the Xbox 360 only games, I use it mostly as an entertainment center. If I have a choice to buy a title in PC format then I snap it up instead. The ability to mod and add mods is fully half the joy of any game. In the case of "Fallout 3" it turned another 100 hour game into something that was enjoyable for a couple hundred+ hours.

I've never much been into adding mods to games. So it wasn't a factor for me.

What about Amazon.fr (but do they have the English version? They should) or Amazon.co.uk? There are no custom charges between UK and the continent. We're all a big European family, doncha know?

I do it the other way around. Order from Amazon France and Germany into UK on a regular basis and the packages go straight past customs.

Edit: Just checked.

Amazon France seems to only sell the French version and marketplace sellers sell the UK import. Play (which delivers for free in Belgium) has the regular edition and so does Amazon UK. Unfortunately, neither seems to have the CE in stock. But do you really want the cloth map? The amazon version comes with the prisoner of stone and some free items. Most other promotional DLC is downloadable for free (see here: http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/8/index/110849 ) and the only thing you would be missing (apart from the goodies in the box), is the Warden's Keep. Considering the exchange rate, Paying the 5 euros for the DLC on top of the UK price for the game should still be cheaper than what you'd pay for a CE, I'd think.

In either case, customs should not be a concern.

I've got the regular edition with the extra promotional content downloaded and I don't feel I'm missing out on anything.
