Since I've only done one to level 6, I can't really say it's my favorite. But I'm really liking my mage.

Next playthrough I'm going to try a rogue or ranger, I think.

So far I've got a human warrior with the traditional Sword and board. It's fun being a moving wall of death.

So far I have enjoyed the Mage storyline but I have only just arrived before the first big battle. I usually play Warrors or Rogue type characters but one specialization for the Mage is called Arcane Warrior.

I only have my mage. He's a bit... clumsy. I keep adding spells to his spellbook that deal direct damage, and unfortunately a lot of them are friendly fire. So I can clear out a room full of darkspawn... but also accidentally set my warriors on fire. Oh well, at least I have the heal spell.

Imagine a game that is actually an interactive movie, Pers. You control the actors and direct your destiny. You have a gaggle of Shakespearean voice actors playing the roles and you're up against the sort of bone-chilling horror you can only imagine in your most feverish dreams.

It's worth the purchase even if you aren't into roleplaying games - just to appreciate the writing and the plot twists that await you.

Nothing is as it seems!

I've gotten lots of practice with the cone of fire. By moving to right angles from the warriors I can usually send a blast of fire directly across 2 or 3 enemies - or just run over and blast their archers. Of course, then I'm aggro toast and have to run away like the little girl I am.

I picked it up last night (PC version). I started a human warrior, and am completely impressed with the quality of the story. Combat, and controlling party members, is a little hectic right now. I'm pausing a LOT!

But great game!

I pause constantly until I can figure out the tactic system completely as different encounters call for different tactics.

I think I may start a second campaign today. I am interested in the ranger class

Last night I finished all of the Origin stories and later tonight will play the Mage til I get him to Arcane Warrior so I can see if I will stick with that class or not.

Over an hour and a half, and I am still not able to install the game (Win XP). Installation fails with a data error. I Googled the error and found that lots and lots of of people are having this problem. Bioware is aware of the problem and is advising people to submit support tickets. Meh. I shut off my virus software, shut down my firewall, and even copied the entire DVD to my hard drive. The install fails every time. Not sure what to do next, but I will keep trying. This is very frustrating.

From a forum I found

Quote:
For those who are having "data error" during installation, just extract the files .rar at "date" folder to some directory on your hard disk. And then copy the other files from the "data" and put together at the same folder.

Then just run the daorigins.exe from the folder "bin_ship" that have been created. This worked for me, hope work for you too, guys.

Thank you Dancien. I will try that. I just went through a nightmare. I rebooted my PC thinking that might help, and it froze as Windows came up. Tried again several times with the same result. Tried Safe Mode, then reboot, no luck. Had to restore my system to a previous save point.

This game had better be darned good

C:\da_INST\data\core.rar: CRC failed in packages\core\data\gui.erf. The file is corrupt
I may be done with this. I wonder if I can get a refund.

ETA: Wow, opened the .rar file and attempted to extract that one file and the error occurs again. Amazing.

ETA: Ok, I performed what Dancien quoted from the forum. On running I get: This application has failed to start because PhysXLoader.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Um, no. I am out.

ETA: I had a glimmer of hope when somebody suggested changing the install directory. Didn't work.

The number of people having a problem installing this game is really staggering.

http://daforums.bioware.com/viewtopi...2462&forum=146

ETA: Well, I am persistent. I am downloading the entire 7 gig game through the EA Downloader. Even though people are having the same problems with the digital download.

*crosses fingers and sighs* ... just an hour and a half to go ...

ETA: As expected, the downloaded copy of the game also fails to install.

ETA: Well, after three attempts to install the game from the digital download, each failing at a different spot, I have finally installed the game.

My mage is in The Fade. The game seems to be running very well so far.

Dear Stupid Connor,

After dying 5 times with Morrigan in the Fade, I have decided when I go back into game, you're going to die. Then End.

No Love

Give it a few hours play. I think you really will like it.

The one in the courtyard at RedCliff?

First 5 wipeouts were with my mage, Morrigan, Alistair and the Qunari warrior with 2h sword. My tactics were faulty - if you advance too far from the door, the Revenant summons you into the middle of his minions over in the corner. And then there's the matter of the archers on the stairs on your flank.

I got him, though. One or all of these helped: 1. I turned difficulty down to easy (shut up). 2. Gained a level from 7 to 8. 3. I swapped out the Qunari for Leilani the Bard - her Valor song and longbow seemed to help with the approach I wanted to take.

4. I held the party by the door and my mage carefully advanced a few feet alone until she could target the archers on the stairs. Once they were down, I reformed the group with our backs to the wall (the darkspawn like to surround you and get the flanking attack bonus), then told Alistair to go to Shield defense while the 2 mages and Leilani fired on the Revenant.

5. Finally: Once the Revenant and his minions charged us, I used the "=" key to select my entire party and command everyone to focus attacks on the Revenant first. Once he went down, the rest of the undead were a piece of cake.

Imagine my disappointment after facing this demon down in the Fade - SEVERAL times - and after ending her existence she didn't drop that skimpy armor

The way RPGs are designed, you just know that a few chains and nipple rings will be something like AC 400.

I am having a lot of fun with this game. The installation problems were epic, but in the end, the game has proven worth the hassle. I am very impressed with the story, and with the voice acting. I played Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Mass Effect, and none drew me into the story like Dragon Age has. Bioware has really mastered this art like no other company. I am playing a mage and I am about to go through the ritual to become a Gray Warden. I will probably play this game a bit slower than most, because I am enjoying the story, and reading every book I get. Although it's not an MMO, I kind of wish there were a friend's list so you could chat with people while you played.

Ok, back to the game ...

So, I'm pretty much playing a Knight. Heavy Armor, Sword, shield, good choices, etc.

I am trying to figure out how come I cannot take my you know MAGICAL SWORD WITH 3 FIRE ENCHANTS....and break the fucking locks on chests.

Le Sigh.
