Modern Warfare 2 PC cuts dedicated server support.

And it's not looking good for mod support either.

BASHandSlash.com - BASH 123: Pwnt!

So, basically mandatory matchmaking. This means no server-based communities. No support for organized clanning of any sort. No custom maps. I'm sure playing on the p2p server hosted locally by Tommy-the-12-year-old's Compaq Presario is going to be a hoot as well..

I simply do not see how this is acceptable. PC fps titles have supported dedicated servers since, well, Quake, for crying out loud! They've essentially just popped the x360 version onto the pc from the sound of it. I've always preferred PC shooters because I am able to find a server with administration I agree with and regulars I enjoy being around. So much for that. Shit, I've been within the leadership of communities for servers in TFC, Svencoop, HL2: DM and TF2. This is a damned insult to the pc gaming community.

I'm going to be passing on this game.

There will be private server support for players who still want a custom match so it won't be just a matchmaking service. Plus the guy that they talked to didn't know about the status for mod support for the PC version or if such mods could be hosted by the new IW.net so that still could be possible. It will run in conjunction with Steam which has VAC anti-cheating support

No dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2 PC; Infinity Ward to run matchmaking service

Infinity Ward is now saying:

Quote:
"We're just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners," West explained. The duo had received countless complaints from PC Modern Warfare players who were unable to find a match online that wasn't riddled with cheaters, "insular" clans and enormous skill disparities -- problems they hope IWNet will eliminate. When asked why both matchmaking and dedicated servers couldn't both exist, West explained that this practice would "bifurcate the community."

I am an admin on a cod server that has run since 2003, that has gone through all the different cod games, and we are not amused by this one little bit. The custom maps made by the community are the lifeblood of these games after a couple of months, as is being able to kick (and ban) the unreformable assholes/cheaters/non-objective doers, which probably wont be possible on their servers.

Cancel your preorders and post opinions on blogs basically telling them they have permanently lost customers. Also ban anyone that supports the move or continues to use the products of that company. Ban them from your clans, etc. No recourse. Buy products from that company and be banned. Only by damaging their quarterly numbers will they pay any attention.

All this and they still won't care because they want idiots for customers that will not question crap coding.

Do you ever have anything positive to say, or is "raving insanity" your normal routine?
