Did it ever occur to you it was the TV you used it on, not the system? Also, GTA IV was not designed for keyboard and mouse - they had to revamp it support it. I know the usual keyboard vs mouse arguments, but with as much time that is spent in vehicles in GTA, claiming mouse and keyboard is better for it is silly. Thankfully the XBOX 360 controller support is flawless.

my TV is a 1080P (super white w/ PS3) HDD 42"... I've tested it on the PS3 and the Xbox, it does look a hell of a lot crisper on the PC.. yea they did have to revamp it of course for mouse and keyboard, I could I suppose have the Controller on my lap as I play and pick it up when I jump in cars.. but i've no issue driving with them..

auto aim takes so much away from shooters imo.

Without any doubt I'm getting it! I'll probably get a Geforce 9800 GX2 in January, and I'm hoping that will be enough without having to get a quad core CPU.

I only installed this dual core CPU about 6 months ago, and if I'd known then that GTA:IV would demand a quad core, I'd have waited a few more months. :/

I can't believe the difficulty I've had obtaining this game locally. Even HMV can't guarantee they'll have it in stock this side of Jan 1st 2009, so I finally ordered it from Amazon this morning. (I should have done that in the first place.)

thats weird, they're falling off the shelves in our local Game o.O..

My poor mate bought it yesterday to play with me.. He's delighted to be able to play a game in 800x600 glory again!

Quad core or bust..

was meant to say, a patch has been sent to microsoft to be cleared and should be out in the next few days, couldnt come fast enough to be honest!

Quote:
Patch Is On The Way
We are working on making a patch available in the next few days. Since Grand Theft Auto IV is a Games For Windows – Live game the patch must be certified by Microsoft before release. The patch is already at Microsoft and we expect a speedy approval.
The patch contains a variety of fixes including:

-A fix to the crash after legal screen that some German customers were reporting.
-Numerous improvements to the video editor: Smarter naming of videos, improved rendering quality, better fx during replays
-Fix to bowling while using certain sensitive mice
-Fix for ATI 1900 shadows
-Overall savings to memory (doesn't exactly say "fixes memory leak" )
-Graphic improvements to particle systems and mirrors
-Multiplayer character settings are preserved
-Support for DirectInput controllers. Note: The current hack way of supporting these controllers may not work with the improved functionality. So we recommend you remove the hack before upgrading to the patch.

Issues with power management software have also been fixed (slow speed, double speed issues). Even after the patch comes out setting power management software to maximum performance is recommended. We’ve seen cases where power management software does not detect the game is running and puts the CPU in green mode.

Besides the patch we’ve also improved the way the Social Club handles data this should have greatly reduced or eliminated the Mma10 error. If you are still receiving this error after logging in and out of Social Club we would like to know as much info as you can about it.
My PC doesn't seem to like remembering my custom key bindings... yet that's not mentioned in the fix.. minor niggle compared to some peoples problems but still pretty annoying..

My nearest GAME is too far away. :/

I'm convinced HMV have got more serious problems than they're admitting because their stock problems concern more than just GTA:IV.

our local HMV shut, a shop called Zuma or something took its place, which was hastily replaced with a River Island..

The patch is out but it looks like that it has issues as well. This time with some of the game controllers.

You guys might be interested in the sales ratings for PC GTA, which ranked pretty poorly. Kotaku writes "Never let it be said PC gamers are a stupid lot ... You release a busted game, and they just won't buy it."

Woopah!

With some serious tweakage to my PC for performance sake (it now looks like win 98) I've made GTA4 extreamly playable on full settings!

look at the ram usage though... this is just for experimenting, I'll put the draw distance back to 40 for actual play which ads about 15 to the FPS.

I also defragged, turned off Indexing service, completly disabled win.ini and system.ini and all unwanted start-up programs and services adjusted windows visuals for best performance.. a lot of Hassle but honestly most that stuff is PC performance gamer 101 anyway.
