What server is your Dwarf Engineer on? I'm thinking about creating a Dwarf Iron Breaker. I already have an Empire Witch Hunter and an Empire Bright Wizard on the Tor Elyr server.

I got to level 10 today on Vandaul my Marauder and received an extra bag with 16 slots for leveling. I also got the ability below that has a cool animation briefly:

EA claims that they now have 750,000 subscribers for WAR. I guess we'll see how it looks after the free 30 days are up since I think that Age of Conan had about as many in that time period and then the numbers started going down. Of course Mythic didn't break as many promises as Funcom did so close to the release of AoC nor was WAR as buggy.

Mythic has also been cranking out fixes and patches like I haven't seen for a damn while. Yesterday was fun. Hit lvl 11 while defending Destruction held camps in Nordland. Eventually it was just me and a Witch Elf doing the defending. We eventually got killed a lot because Order finally got organized. And while I think of myself as pretty good.

4 Warpriests
1 Rune Dwarf
4 Shadow Warriors
3 Burning Mages.

That many tend to kick my ass.

Also, Order needs less healing classes. Seriously. Fighting them is like one big healing circle jerk.

It's not true!! Order can keep their f'ing healers. Destro just needs more witch elves. Kiss of Death + Kiss of Doom + the rest of that mastery tree = healer rape of epic proportions.

My alt is running in T1 and all I do with her is look for healers. If I get decent crits I can two shot the clothies. If not, assuming KoD procs, they are still dead. The war priest is the hardest to drop (because he has the biggest armor) and he is still dead or out of the fight after the first few seconds.

Well hell. I was all set to NOT try this game because a couple of friends in RL gave it shitty reviews, but after reading this, I am going to give it a whirl.

Thanks all.

It's seriously the most fun I've ever had on an MMO. I also think it's great that the PVP is extremely well balanced imo. Granted, the composition for an individual scenario may not be (Order really does run too many fucking healers), but that should equal out better as people get higher in level and start running in guild parties.

How is PVP structured with RvR? Are they free-for-alls, or split up by levels as they are in WoW? Instanced or persistent RvR areas?

I have other questions about class and gear balance, but I suppose it's a bit soon to be asking those. Can you tell that I left WoW over balance issues?

Left WoW over balance? You mean you didn't like the fact that everything was scaled to match up in Arena for eSports?

Anyway, PVP is structured in two different ways:

RvR Lakes: Areas with general PVP like EPL from WoW.

Scenarios: You can queue to join these anywhere, any time. You will be queued into the selected scenario and a popup will come when you hit the front of the line.

Both of these are level specific. The lakes are in areas appropriate for a certain level range (which they refer to as tiers). The scenarios are also broken up appropriately. As well, there is bolster, and chicken.

Bolster is a buff that works like side-kicking in CoH/CoV, except it happens anytime you enter an RvR area/scenario. So using the tier 1 bracket as an example, a level 1 gets the bolster buff and has the stat equivilants of a lvl 8. You still have your shit ass level 1 gear and abilities, but it means you can at least participate and feel useful. At level 12-13 when I start on tier 2 scenarios, I was able to top out the charts in damage as long as I played smart.

Chicken is awesome. Grief what? If you are too high a level for an RvR lake, you get turned into a chicken when you enter. You do 1 damage with any ability. When you leave, you go back to normal.

The scenarios are fun and fast paced, and the general area RvR really makes you feel like a participant in the world. The classes aren't true mirrors, and that's the way mythic intended it, so it isn't like WoW where both sides have to be perfectly matched. I would dig through their website for details on things, and I can offer up some specific info on class balancing and gearing, but for the most part it's very very very straight forward.

Oh, and quest rewards...they're always for your class. Not necessarily with the bonus's you want for you build, but you never get quest gear for a different class. How cool is that?

And just one thing about class balance, using the order healers for an example:

My sorc can do fantastic AoE, but when 5 healers are running around on the order team, I might as well be doing nothing. I can't even just target one and chain nuke him to death even though based on pure DPS and game mechanics, I can probably two shot him.

A good witch elf, on the other hand, assuming she doesn't get barricaded by a tank who stuck around, can gang-rape three of those healers before anyone really gets a chance to stop her because of the abilities she has.

So this game truely is balanced around group PvP. 1v1 there are just going to be matches you lose at, which for some classes, could be all of them. So you really have to get into the RvR mindset, and out of (if you ever were in it) the arena mindset. There are probably some balance issues, but I don't really see/feel them. Usually at the end of a scenario the stats and who won reflect two things: either an extreme group composition mis-match (assuming you pug'd) or who played better.

Bah, Direct2Drive doesn't like gmail addresses and I just dropped my personal domain due to disuse (I'm sure I have an mail account with my isp as if I ever paid any attention to that).

I'm going to have to go to a store?!? This better be worth it.

When I said balance issues I meant that WoW seemed to come to a point where it was always a bunch of people screaming "imbalance", and then blizzard would come along and tweak class balance (not necessarily just because of the bitching, and I got the feeling that the dev team had grown bored with many aspects of the game themselves), which almost always screwed someone else over, and it just kept going around in a circle. The game became too centered around balance for me, arena became so big that it was hard to get anyone to do anything else anymore, and I just grew tired of it. I think the final straw for me was when they ruined my fury warrior. Enough on WOW!

Thanks for the info, I especially like the fact that the rewards are always for your class - it was frustrating in WoW to do some long ass quest chain and then have garbage or something not class specific forced upon you.

True, but you do occasionally get loot for a different class, but its still the same level you are.

I was in a 40 minute fight today in a keep. 40 minutes of me blocking the stairs saying "No, fuck off, No Keep for you".
