I started playing with my friend and I have to say, I can't stand the artwork. I'm not sure how much I will play, I just can't get into the atmosphere.

The whole different atmosphere from WoW is what makes it for me since I got complete burnout from it. WAR isn't for everybody.

P.S. Cris I sent your Magus, Dimitrios, a belt in the mail. I it got today from some loot. It doesn't have any AC, but it does give some increase in stats. I'm not sure belts have AC on them anyway.

Alright, so far I'm loving the game. Couple things though.

1: Oh Hai Thar lag!
2: I have salvaging, I have magic items I don't need. What next?
3: I keep ranking 2nd-4th in scenarios with my Dwarven Engineer.

I hope they expand on crafting. Right now crafting is really crap and dull.
What's with only having one crafting skill, from a choice of 2, and one gathering skill?
WoW at least had cooking and fishing too.

I wish one of these new MMORPGs would compete with Ultima Online when it comes to crafting. Start with knife, kill chicken, cut wood from tree, use wood to make arrow and stick chicken's feathers to it. Nothing even close to that in WoW or WAR

I'm not a fan of crafting so it doesn't bother me. Too much crafting gets to be too much of a chore.

For awhile, EQ2 had that level of crafting, but they dumbed it down. I enjoyed it, it was a challenge and was relaxing. It also required you to actively be involved because crafting required using certain skills at the right time during the crafting process to ensure the quality of the item. Crafting something may have taken three or four ingredients, each which may also need to be crafted.

I especially liked the cooking in EQ2, because it actually meant something as part of the gameplay - player made food was much better than anything you could buy, and eating and drinking are a necessity, unlike in WoW where it just provides a buff.

So far, crafting is the only disappointment in WAR - it is limited, and seems rather complicated. I just started apothecary, but it seems you just figure out stuff by trial and error which is kind of odd.

I enjoy the gathering of things more than the crafting itself. Everybody needs ingredients.

Thank you I went back to my Magus character today. One thing I have not found is a buddy list kind of thing in WAR - is there any beyond the Guild thing?

The social window is opened by the "O" key. I've got 5 friends so far and when I got the 5th one I got an achievement for it.

I got my first gold at level 7 and spent part of it to dye my armor to make it all the same color.

Too much may be a chore, but in Ultima Online you could always choose exactly how much crafting you wanted to be involved with. You could play the game without ever crafting anything, or set yourself up making and designing entire houses and kitchenware ranges, as well as loads of recipes, armour types and weapons.

I enjoy MMORPGS for the relaxing aspect to them as much as the fighting - I will fight for an hour or so, then go sit by a lake and fish for a while, or get stuff together and make items. WAR has the least craftable items I've ever seen. You get scraps of leather all the time, so why not at least let you make more bags?

You automatically get an extra bag every 10 levels I believe.

How many people are officially destro on ostermark? If we've got around 10 we could either start a guild, or join another as a group package.

On an unrelated note, I just hit Tier 3 with my Magus. Tier 2 was enjoyable, but i'm a little glad to be away from doing Mourkain's Temple every 20 minutes. Hopefully Tier 3 will be fun, we'll see.

I've mentioned lots of things I've enjoyed and I am enjoying WAR apart from the lack of crafting.
I enjoy Densha De Go too.
I quite like Pangya Golf and I really enjoy Ouendan on the PSP

Never played EQ2, but that description reminds me of crafting in Vanguard - which I just hated. Crafting just one item was a long process with multiple steps and you had to pay attention to each and every one and do or not do stuff and ugh .. thanks, but no thanks.

I agree that the crafting in WAR is odd; trying to level apothecary atm (I have butchering / apoth) and I'm constantly out of "stabilizers". But the trial method ain't too bad, at skill level 100 now I have a fair idea of what works and what doesn't. The "critical successes" are a bit annoying though, making lvl30 potions at lvl24 .. More fodder for the bank!

If you would have somehow gotten the North American version you wouldn't have to.

Maybe they'll eventually do what Age of Conan is planning on doing soon. Which is combining the North American and European servers. But that sounds like they are already having problems since I've never heard of it happening before in a major MMO.

Why? It never happened with WoW. No matter what others have said here, the UK version of WoW only lets you play with Europeans (although Blizzard permanently banned me for living in Japan because they are racist shits who think crime only happens outside of the US)

ETA: You pretty much said that, but one major MMORPG where it does happen and work is Eve Online

I'm considering this. I've done WoW and LOTRO and now playing Perfect World (as it's free). But PW is really starting to grate on me. No matter how they dress it up with Chinese lore, PW boils down to 'kill 30 xxxx and report back'. I'm at the stage now where the monsters are powerful and you get to kill 2 at time before sitting down for 5 minutes to recharge which is incredibly boring. You get about 2 mins of action every 10 minutes. I can't face it anymore. How does WAR cope with the grind?
