Mass Effect

The more I see of the Xbox 360 game Mass Effect, from the creators of Knights of The Old Republic, the more I plan on getting it when it comes out in November.

Here is an interview and a small demonstration of the game.

There is also a prequel book out called Mass Effect: Revelation.

I played Mass Effect some last night and I am very impressed with it especially the voice acting. If you liked the Knight of the Old Republic series of games then you'll really like this one.

There are a few glitches, but they are actually pretty minor such as some textures loading slowly after a loading screen and a couple of time the frame rate dropped, but not enough to ruin the game. Also the AI gets a bit off at times like one of the characters in your squad continually shooting at a wall that the enemy is hiding behind or the enemy just stopping right in the line of fire, but not many games do a great AI.

Its a more action oriented game than the KOTOR series of games. There is almost no tutorial and it takes about 30 minutes or so to get use to how the fighting is done especially the pausing of the game to change weapons or abilities of you and your squad.

Anything you do in game is suppose to have consequences later in the story. One thing I read is there is a decision of whether to let a whole alien species live or die.

It probably needed a few more months of work done before the release, but maybe there will be updates to fix the technical problems. It is still a game worth getting. Some people are even calling the game "Jack Bauer in Space"

If I were a reviewer I'd give it a 9. It would have been a 10 without the technical glitches and the sometimes dumb AI.

Played for 8 hours straight today, quite loving it.

It happened by accident, but since my character ended up looking a little like and also sounding somewhat like Admiral Caine, I decided to roleplay her as such. That is, nice to and willing to help people under her command/in the military, and a horrid bitch to everyone else.

So much fun

Edit: Also yes, even though I won't play a male character, i'm still gonna try and see if I can recreate Jack Bauer. God that'd be awesome.

Just finished it a little while ago.

The last three hours are an incredibly epic ride. I loved every moment from beginning to end, and now I get to play again with my level 50 character in hardcore mode. Then I get to play through after that as a different class, and then...

So awesome. I can't wait for Mass Effect 2. (Yes, already.)

Played it over the holiday too, spent 32 hours on it, got most of the game done on the first play through. Definately gonna go back and play it again, get that character up to level 60. There are still a few planets I haven't explored.

It's a great game, though not perfect. It took a few hours to get used to it, the biggest hangup for me was the vehicle. I'm still not as used to it as a warthog or any other vehicle in any other game, but I got to the point where I enjoy it and don't sware at it, hehe.

I love the song during the credits, can't wait for the sequels.

Seth Green did some of the voice acting. Not the first guy I think of when I think "hero character". You may remember him as the weasley guy in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". He's so proud of this project it's not even listed on his official celebrity bio.

Why couldn't they get Clive Owen?

You do know who he played right? Because he was perfect for the role. He seemed happy enough with the role to do an interview about the game that the marketting guys have been pushing pretty hard.

I didn't mind Seth Green at all. He probably gave it a bit more exposure, plus every time he talked about it he seemed really excited. That could have been the nature of the interview, but I won't complain.

I was always more excited about Raphael Sbarge (Kaidan, and also Carth in KOTOR) and Jennifer Hale (Shepard, Bastila, Samus, Jennifer Mui in Mercenaries.) Those two are pretty much my favorite voice actors. Whenever I talked with Kaidan it meant they were both talking, so I kept grinning like an idiot every time.

Been playing this pretty much solidly for the past week! This game is awesome keeps me playing just to see what's gonna happen next!

This game is so good Assassin's Creed has barely got a look in yet! (Yes yes I'm slow, only got my 360 last week).

I heard there was a 2 & 3 slated to be made in the future, here's to hoping!

2 and 3 have been planned from the start, and Bioware has said that even if sales aren't fantastic, that won't change.

Some Bioware people who worked on Mass Effect have been commenting in another forum I frequent. They've said they are aiming towards taking your end-game save from ME1 and importing it somehow, to carry over the desisions you made.

Bioware has captured me pretty well. At this point i'll blindly buy any game if it has their name on the box. They haven't let me down yet.

Yeah, they even plan to have them all come out on the Xbox 360 and will even use the same game engine. Hopefully they will fix a few of the glitches though. Its already made 1 Million in global sales in 3 weeks so I'm sure there will be a sequel.

Rumor has it they are working with LucasArts on a Knights of the Old Republic MMORPG which will possibly replace Star Wars Galaxies.

Yah, as I recall KOTOR 2 was affected by the save file from KOTOR 1. Basically, I read what they said on the Bioware forum as well. Bascially, however you want to start off in Mass Effect 2, make sure that's the only save file you have on your xbox (For that character).

I didn't know they planned to use the same engine, that's pretty cool as it already looks great and that means they could come out with sequels very quick (Rather than waiting 2 years). I'm hoping they'll give us some downloadable content as well, not just new weapons/armor but a new planet or two to explore as well.

They are working on downloadable content, but they haven't said what it is yet.

In KOTOR 2, the way you carried it over was that you answered a few questions that then set up how the first one ended. Since you were playing a different character though, it didn't have much impact other than things in the background. As far as I know, they are planning on you playing as Shepard for the entire trilogy.

Also, since a lot of the achievements require multiple playthroughs, I don't think having more than one end-game character is going to be a problem. Hopefully you can choose which you want to use. I'd go for the Paragon ending with the Renegade final choice... that was just so incredible, and I want to see how it plays out.

This would be pretty awesome being a HUGE Bioware fan, having played the NWN series, BG series, KOTOR series etc..although pretty sure this rumour has been around since the *spit* NGE...SWG, don't get me started haha!

The Bioware MMO and the Bioware-Lucasarts projects had two separate press releases.

I'll hope right along with you all that it's a KOTOR MMO, but not too hard since i'd be crushed if it wasn't. Whatever they are, I am positive they'll be fantastic.

Then, of course, there's Dragon Age. We're being spoiled

Thats the reason they are using the same game engine, especially since I think the estimated life of the 360 is about 8 years and 2 years are already gone.

Mass Effect will have downloadable content on March 10th.

Bring Down the Sky includes a new uncharted world that introduces the notorious and feared alien race of the Batarians. A Batarian extremist group has hijacked a mobile asteroid station in the Asgard system, setting it on a collision course with the nearby colony world of Terra Nova. Only Commander Shepard can save the millions of innocent civilians before the asteroid completes its deadly descent.

They say it'll add about an extra 90 minutes to the game and 50 Gamescore points.
