The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Not Content to Cash Out: CD Projekt’s The Witcher: Enhanced Edition | GameCyte

On September 16th The Witcher:Enhanced Edition is getting new animations, new NPC models, fixing all of the dialogue translation problems, squashing bugs, and "increasing load times by 80%." It also includes two audio CDs, a making-of DVD, an official game guide, a short story from the author of the book that the game is based on, and a map, and it retails for $49.99. However, if you're previously purchased the game, it's a free download.

NPC model differences, old and new:

Now I need to find my copy of the game.

Is this version for PC only? Or for 360?

I don't think it could run on my PC - but I sure as hell want to get it for console when I can.

Oh, right. I seemed to believe it was for 360 and PC both. Guess I was thinking of another Bioware engine spin-off game.

You know - I suddenly noticed this.

I sure hope they MEANT decrease and something got lost in the translation? Otherwise I'd start to worry. :-/

Yes and no. I quoted the joystiq.com article instead of the news article which said decreasing.

The patch is now out but the game key has to be registered. It comes with several different updates. But be warned the main patch can take up to two hours to update the game.

Its a much better experience playing the game now that this huge update is out. The only odd thing so far is when I'm doing dialogue with a character the face looks like it has a slightly blurry spot. Maybe I just need to see if there is an update for my video card driver. I'll have to try that some time tomorrow.

I purchased The Witcher from Steam for $39.95 US and I am downloading it now. I am in the mood for something dark and fantasy-based. I have really been enjoying Total War, but it wasn't satisfying my need for something gothic and magical. I watched the IGN review of the game, and it seems like it might fit the bill. The game looks pretty cool, if a bit flawed. However, it might take a month and a half just to download.

I literally just finished this yesterday afternoon, for the first time since I bought it way back when.

It's quite a good game, very unique in how it presents the various choices you have to make throughout. It's not a jrpg kiddy "hooray everyone is saved lets go have a party" story. Get ready for shit happening that you have no control over, and bad things occurring no matter what you choose to do. Just like real life, if you were a sterile mutant womanizer with superhuman reflexes and swordsmanship.

Thank you Lianne. It took about 5 hours to download the game from Steam. I played for about 3 hours last night (I am going to be sleepy at work today). I am really enjoying the game so far. Sandbox style games - and I have them all, from Morrowind and Oblivion to Fallout 3 and GTA, appeal to me intellectually. But I have a very short attention span and these games tend to bore me rather quickly. I mean, I literally fell asleep trying to play Fallout 3, with all of the talking to people - wow, I never got out of Megaton. That Witcher is so story driven, and even linear, is a very good thing for me. The story is really well done and I am enjoying the combat system. I was a little confused when I meditated and had to assign talents. I selected something, and wasn't sure how I could cancel my selection. I will take greater care next time.

The people who played it, what did you think?

Joshua, I will post some thoughts in a couple of days, once I have played more. I have only a few hours into the game at this point. But so far its a very compelling game for me. It seems to be very story driven, which would be a turn-off for somebody that is more interested in a very open-ended game like Oblivion. For me, it seems to be a perfect fit. And the story is dark and very well told. I am impressed.

I recommend it, a game that I really enjoyed playing. Lots of side quests to do that take you off in all sorts of directions beside the big main quest. Loved the book element that reminded me of Warhammer online with all quests, mythology, characters added to it as you work through the game. Loved reading through that.

You can't cancel your selection when choosing talents, but don't worry. If you are playing on easy you will have more than enough points to get every single non-magic talent there is. I haven't found magic signs to be useful at all beyond puzzle solving so I mostly ignored them.

I am playing on the middle difficulty. The one that said that alchemy is useful, but not required to finish the game. I wanted a little bit of challenge, but not so much that I stop playing out of frustration.

The Escapist : Video Galleries : Zero Punctuation : The Witcher

The Witcher is very much a PC exclusive game, which are typically designed to be as complex and as unintuitive as possible so that those dirty console playing peasants don't ruin it for the glorious PC gaming Master Race.

Love that guy's videos.

Erm. I just fucked the red headed sorceress.

Like, half an hour into the game.

At least Mass Effect practiced abstinence until the end.

Cool.

So I already know it's better than ME.

There's no way I could justify getting a 14 GB game downloaded with my bandwith costs, but going by the story today to pick up the NWN2 expansion pack. Going to grab this one while I'm at it.
