Why does it seem everyone wants to *not* be on a jury?

Because it's arduous and terrible?

I had my first summons ever in 2007 and I got picked for the panel, which really irked me, but we got a lunch recess and during that time the guy we were trying ended up confessing to the crime and I got out of it, but got treated as if I'd served a full case and not been dismissed, so I got a seven year break instead of one.

i have no problem serving on a criminal jury. The idea of sitting and listening to a civil case makes me bitter and irksome. Apparently in SF there are hundreds of asbestos cases. I almost was on a jury a few years ago with the same premise. Lots of building reconstruction I imagine.

I'm fortunate, since my office
a) pays us if we're on jury duty
b) it's easy to get to the courthouse...and find parking and
c) the daily rate we are paid by the court more than covers lunch and parking.

here its $15 a day, for the second and subsequent days of service. So I got zip.
Only a short bus ride, and a pleasant walk to city hall I can't complain that much. And the coffee in the courthouse was really good.

Get paid for the first day here, where they invented the "one day or one trial" system. If you aren't picked for a jury, it's see ya later alligator.
