Blog Bot

I'd like to make a suggestion regarding Blog Bot. I like Blog Bot, and we've had him for quite some time now, and I've noticed two things:

  1. his posts aren't coming in at any sort of obnoxious frequency.
  2. his posts are being ignored by some users, and we keep ending up with double threads.
I suggest that Blog Bot's posts (specifically those from the official SL Blog) should be sent directly to the "General SL Discussion" forum, where his posts are less likely to be missed (and thus ignored, reposted).

It's just getting mighty annoying to follow two threads on the same subject every time LL opens it's yap and changes the game. We all want to react and comment, but this dual post phenomenon is getting tired.

Shunting the SL Blog posts into General SL Discussion would help, I think, lessen the number of duplicated threads.

I like the fact that Blog Bot has its own forum, however I wish there was like a "redirection thread" in General Discussions to direct you to a Blog Bot posting.

Or maybe it could be a "redirection thread" in the Blog Bot forum to the thread in General Discussions... either would work.

"I call it purring, not growling," said Alice.

"Call it what you like," said the Cat.

I always manage to miss Blog Bot posts for a couple of reasons. First, I rarely scroll down that far on the page because I don't really view those threads towards the bottom very often.

And secondly, for some quirky reason News Feed doesn't equate to Blog Bot in my mind. So I always have a hard time finding it -- especially if someone other than Blog Bot is the last post.

I am not sure I want to dump the posts directly into General SL Discussion, even though they are not that frequent - what do you think? I could make it a subforum of General SL discussion. I agree that they need to be made more visible.

I don't think that the current positioning of the blog bot posts is going to work. It's another layer someone has to poke into to find posts. As has been said here already, the problem isn't people being unable to find the forum on the main page, the problem is that the posts are all "in an envelope" that you have to open to look and see if the post already exists.

I think the simplest solution is either to just turn Blog Bot off altogether (which I think is a really BAD idea), make all of blog bot's posts read only (again, what's the point there?).. or just have it dump either ALL of it's messages into SL General Discussion, or at least the ones from the main SL blog.

Another idea, which was suggested above, wout be to have Blog Bot post to his own folder, then "move" those threads to General SL discussion. (probably damned difficult to do through automation).. that way blog bot can have all his posts in one place, for easy finding, and they're also put out into the general discussion area.

But nesting the folder into the SL GD folder.. I think is just totally the wrong way to go, and makes it harder to find blogbot posts, and more likely that we'll see duplicate threads.

It sounds great on paper, but I don't think the current solution will actually work with the way people use the forums.

Alright, I am going to try an experiment - the official blog and status blog entries are separate feeds. I renamed the forum to SL Status Updates and stuck it in Technical Help. The official blog posts will go into General SL Discussion since there are not that many of them. If it doesn't work out, I'll rethink it, but that seems to be the easiest solution.

Well heck, I feel all guilty now as I have already ignored poor Blog Bot myself a couple of times now.

I'll try to be good now, I promise!
