Chat doesn't work on mobile skin

At first I thought there was some incompatibility with the browser on my phone, but upon selecting the mobile skin in Firefox on my desktop PC, it didn't work in that browser either.

I just get a permanent "loading" message in the chat window.

Perhaps it isn't implimented for that skin? I often miss things on the mobile skin that I'm used to when i'm normally browsing from a computer (such as smileys, chat, etc).

If that was the case, I'd expect the chat window to be hidden, but it's not. I see the window, I see the names of everybody in chat, but the chat text just says "Loading...".

If the client side is controlled by Javascript, it should work fine on the Apple Webkit/Safari browsers of many mobile devices too.

When using the mobile skin, that's the behaviour it exhibits on any browser.

Er, it's not broadband video Kristian. It's ASCII chat. How bandwidth UNintensive can you get? The pages are heavier than anything that happens in the chat window, and besides, many people pay by the byte for their domestric broadband too.

Also, if chat is intentionally disabled, then why is the whole chat window visible at all? I figured it was an oversight for that reason, but maybe not... and that's fine. If it's not intentionally disabled, then hell, maybe it's appreciated that I'm drawing attention to it.

As for "jonesing" really badly (whatever that means), it's a feature of a webpage that I wouldn't mind viewing when I've got nothing better to do (ie. stuck on a bus for half an hour). Is that so bad? Must every complaint about features that appear broken on a mobile device come down to what a person must be like?

It's probably uses a really cutdown browser which ignores a lot of tags.

Apple Webkit/Safari renders pages the way you see them on your desktop PC, and I only use the mobile skin because it suits a mobile sized screen better.

Anyway, never mind. I can just switch to the dark skin if I ever want to use chat.

And Kristian - I'm sorry. Apparently I'm incapable of reading stuff the way it was intended.
