Cocktails!!

I'm usually a dirty martini kinda gal, but I saw this recipe in Sunset magazine and had to try it because its so pretty!

Green Gin Cocktail Recipe

It really doesn't taste of gin, nor of celery. Just tastes fresh really. Definitely a do-again.

Whats your most recent favorite cocktail recipe?

Since I moved to Chicago, I've become a bit of a whiskey freak, and I've developed a great fondness for a well-mixed Manhattan. With this ridiculously humid Chicago heat, though, I've been finding whiskey to be a little heavy for me, and I've lately been getting into gin cocktails.

I'm now nuts about the Aviation.

  • 2 ounces gin
  • 1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce lemon juice
Pour ingredients into a shaker with a generous handful of ice. Shake well until your fingertips ache. Strain into a martini glass and serve.
You want it to look like coldness itself.

Heavenly Orgasm

Having a bit of a sweet tooth even in the heat, when it gets really hot I crave a

Heavenly Orgasm
1 oz Frangelico hazelnut liqueur
1/2 oz Amaretto almond liqueur
1/2 oz Bailey's Irish cream

Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker half-filled with cracked ice. Strain into an old-fashioned glass 1/3 filled with ice cubes, and serve.

Aviation cocktails are lovely in the summer! Especially if you don't go for super sweet drinks.

Maraschino liqueur is kinda neat, huh? It didn't really taste like I expected.

Anyway, you might also like these in summer:

Okay so I had a gin bloody mary for the first time (I'm not sure what they're called -- I've seen a couple different names). It was the best bloody mary I ever had! I am a definite convert, not liking vodka that much in the first place, myself.

I haven't actually tried to make this, but I've got a theory stemming from my dislike of sticking a gigantic, distracting celery stalk in a drink that I'd like to try out.

Ingredients
  • Gin
  • Tomato juice
  • Olive juice
  • Tabasco sauce
  • Horseradish
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Fresh ground black pepper
  • Small piece of celery
  • Lemon juice
  • Optional: smoked oyster garnish
Preparation:
  1. Muddle the celery in a martini shaker.
  2. Add ice.
  3. Add a healthy amount of gin, tomato juice, and a splash of olive juice.
  4. Be really liberal with the other stuff unless you hate flavor.
  5. Shake, and pour over a glass of ice.
  6. Add toothpick of oyster.
I had a variation of this at a restaurant and it was incredible. I'd love to try it once I get all the ingredients together. I don't even have a martini shaker. What do you think? Please, somebody try this and tell me how it is.
