Nobody cares - food version

I often think* "hey I should post a food related thing" and start up a new post for it. It's stupid. This is just like nobody cares, but for food stuff. I'll start.

Dear Tunisia,

I'm very proud of you guys for the Arab Spring thing. Thanks a lot for getting fed up and choosing to actually vote for who rules you. That was bad ass, and you handled it pretty well, given the circumstances.

Also WTF thanks for selling me a pint of Tunisian olives for $2.25. You guys are ripping yourselves off, I'd have paid $5 and gladly for them, they are wonderful. I don't even know what half these olives are, but they sure go well together. THANKS.

Love,

Taco

*this was a lie.

I confess. I actually like the Velveeta instant shells. Partly because it's an easy lunch. Partly because the bland cheese thing is perfect for me right now. I ate two of them and some tuna salad and a V-8. I feel balanced, sort of.

I wish I liked whole wheat pasta, but I don't. The texture is crumbly, just not the same, and 'white flour' anything makes me feel guilty. Which is terrible since one of my favourite simple dishes is pasta with fresh tomato sauce.

* fresh tomatoes, blanched, peeled, and cut, heated up (not too hot!) in olive oil, garlic, cracked pepper, and at the last moment, basil leaves. Toss in cooked paste, plate, then sprinkle with whatever cheese you have. I like Gruyère. The taste of garden tomatoes, in all their varieties, means summer to me.

You can use different herbs, or add mushroom, sausages, or chili peppers....

So, yeah, I had this last night, and I feel guilty because I'd like some again tonight.

Please do not feel too guilty!

It doesn't sound really unhealthy. I have to go moderately low carb so I only have pasta in small servings but I still have it. I usually have it alongside either a salad or a protein serving or both, or add a lot of cheese so I'm still filled up. They say if it's al dente it won't hit your blood sugar too fast but in my case I just make sure my serving is small.

I do like whole wheat pasta but I use a very different kind of sauce with it, much spicier and more robust flavors. I still have to use small portions though.

I had my first ever corn dog today . It wasn't what I thought it was, which was a sort of vegetarian hot dog made out of sweet corn, so it ended up being better than I was expecting

A very small epiphany but its nice to learn something new every day.

Ronzoni Smart Taste pasta has extra fiber, like the whole wheat pasta would have, but tastes like regular pasta.

People who complain about too much lettuce on there subway sandwiches need to shut the hell up, sorry they're giving you the ability to shit it out later! and if you're the kind to complain about it, it's also probably the only green thing you're gonna eat that day/week.

hell, I want them to put more on by default.

oh lettuce....

I also wanna know is who thought every damn sandwich needs globs of mayo on it.

and yes, I see the humor of this!

(lives in the chicago land area and puts ketchup on hot dogs just to see the old men grind there most likely racist/bigoted(<---inside joke to myself) teeth in intolerant anger)

Shredded lettuce is not food.

I don't know what it is ... packing material? But not food, definitely not food.

Logically I know that Tuna is fish. I don't eat fish (That's a whole 'nother thread). But I eat Tuna, and since it comes in a can and I don't have to see the fish, I can go Ostrich mode and continue denying that the meat in that can is fish, and I love it.

I absolutely will not eat chunk tuna, unless I'm really desperate. I eat solid white albacore, and I open the can and go through every little bit of it with my fingers and a fork, making sure there are no scales or bones before I'll eat it. If I cannot do this, I will not eat it. I will volunteer to make whatever dish it is containing tuna, if it means that I can get that peace of mind from having sorted through the tuna myself. (I might be slightly neurotic about certain things.)

I think tuna is best with a good amount of mayo and a bit of dill pickle relish, spooned onto crackers.

I once had an entire month where I craved tuna with dill pickles or dill pickle relish, all the time. I didn't quite eat it every day, but it was close to that. Occasionally I ate it for more than one meal. Subway was good for enabling that odd craving.

I'm eating some French bread spread with a double-cream brie. I feel very quaint when I eat this. Also pleased. I feel very pleased.

Yum. You may want some red wine to go with your bread and cheese. And maybe some nuts. And grapes. And a couple of other cheeses on the side: say, a Tome, blue cheese, a fresh goat cheese... Oh and some smoked ham from Germany!

But I digress. Yum, double-cream brie!

I love the smell of lime that is left on my fingers after using them in a recipe, so I don't wash my hands for as long as I can.

just finished bottling my first ever ginger beer. Cultivated the bug earlier last week and sugar + extra water + bottling yielded 6 1L plastic bottles and 2.5 750mL bailey-topped ones. The solution tastes a bit sweet and a bit weak right now; i do hope i retained enough yeast to keep the carbonation process going. 7-10 days, then i'll know how it went!

Note to self: bailey top bottles are a bad idea. Especially when the recipe, which claims there is low carbonation, is WRONG.

Remember the gum that used to come with a pack of baseball or hockey cards? It was long, flat, pink, and covered in some sort of white powder. I keep smelling it, or imagining that I am.

Bazooka tasted similar. I wonder if they still make those.
