Well, I learned how to make pizza and I've been obsessively photographing my efforts:

Why yes, this is, in fact, an egg, anchovy and basil pizza:

I love making something nice for my vegetarian friends because they really appreciate not being an after-thought. Problem is, I'm doing some roots cooking and for me that's Cajun. You'd think there's be some good choices because of the whole Catholic no-meat-on-friday thing, but the recipes I have for those dishes all start with cooking the veggies with a ham hock or some such nonsense lol.

...oh also, it's been months since I've cooked.

I'm looking forward to seeing my city-slicker friends stare and poke at Boudin. Ya can't be dainty when you eat the stuff either.

I learned to make an amazing fried egg from the first minute of this video and it's really, really delicious! Worth trying! The edges are crispy and crunchy, and the yolk is still runny -- it's scrumptious. As a self-professed butter fiend, I couldn't believe I could get that range of flavors from olive oil.

This is the best time of the year, not for chocolate, cookies or candy.. but for Clementines!

And yes only the one from Spain will do... the California 'Cuties' are not as good. And yes, it goes against every thought I have about buying locally produced food, and yada yada yada.

This is my crack, I can easily put away 3 boxes of these a week.

/me goes back downstairs and grabs 4 more

I got a box yesterday! Unfortunately, they were a bit dry and tasteless...old. And yes, they were from Spain. I was just unlucky in my picking of the box, but no matter, I'll still go through it in a day or two.

Then I'll get another!

Marmite is SO GOOD and it is on the small shelf of "UK stuff" at our local supermarket (with Campbell's soups, cream crackers and HP sauce and Oxo cubes and lemon curd and... mint sauce!).

Weirdly, it is still alive and kicking in former UK colonies too. I've had Marmite and butter in a little pot to have on beef in Botswana (YUM), Marmite on the breakfast buffet in other African countries.

Marmite... rocks.

Had some leftover Chinese food from a few days ago. There was lo mein - lots of it, as no one seems to grab as much of the lo mein as they do the fried rice, fu yung, etc. So, I just finished off the lo mein for my lunch. But it wasn't enough. I'm still hungry for lo mein.

I wonder if chocolate ice cream makes a good fill in for lo mein...

I like crispy edges on my fried eggs too! I just never learned how to get that and not overcook the yolks - now I know. And that recipe with chorizo is fantastic - gonna try it some day.

Someone earlier mentioned tuna - here's my favorite way to make a tuna sammich:

Two large slices of the best rye bread you can find - my favorite is dark-and-light marbled, but it's hard to find.

Lots of mayo - but also some good sharp mustard, like a brown mustard especially if it has visible seeds.

Lots of a good crisp lettuce - something with body like iceberg or romaine - I prefer romaine, and use the whole leaves so you have lots of the really crunchy part. Make a bed of it on the bread.

An entire can of good chunk tuna *in oil*. Drain the oil and flake the tuna into the bed of lettuce.

Slice a couple of sweet gherkins and lay them on the tuna

Now a layer of sliced cheese - almost anything you like will do, my favs are muenster or Colby jack for this.

Top with the bread, slice in half, devour.

I know, I know...nobody cares!

A Muscovy duck wandered onto our front lawn, must have escaped from the allotments nearby or a wild one who knows. And what do we eat for Christmas eve? Free dinner? Or an emissary saying choose turkey or beef instead, or tofu.
