Inspired by some of the meals that a friend prepared while I was in London, penne pasta in a light cheese sauce, along with a finely shredded raw carrot, beet, walnut and feta salad, tossed with balsamic vinegar and black pepper.

The raw carrot and beet thing was a bit of a revelation to me, as my early exposure to beetroot was the cooked and pickled type, which I hated as a kid, and have avoided ever since.

My mom used to serve beets sometimes when I was a kid, always cooked. I hated them, but that actually sounds good.

It was pretty good, despite my cooking skills
It seems to be a decent base, so I'll experiment with other components next.

I wanted to BBQ the ribs I got today, but storms came in. So I turned on the oven (sigh). Put a little BBQ sauce on them, cooked them at 400 degrees for just over 1/2 hour. They were to die for.

Tomorrow will be in the low 70's so I will be making spaghetti. That will give me enough sauce to make 'goulash' the next day and maybe have leftovers until Saturday

TBH, I use Ragu chunky mushroom sauce, add 1 lb 93% lean ground beef and 1 lb sweet Italian sausage. Add spices, and no one has been able to tell the sauce was store bought

Was in the mood for a treat tonight. Grilled ribeyes, green salad, lima and green beans, garlic mashed potatoes, and a peach cobbler with ice cream for dessert.

I'm currently cooking the filling for meat pie: red wine leek, tomato, diced steak, beef stock bay leaf gfarlic etc. Also drinking red wine I'll use puff pastry sheets and we'll be decadent and have mini pies. More pastry that way

It's a cold yucky windy night so maybe just some chips to go with.

My kid decided he wants to learn how to cook. I think that's a wonderful thing. So he picked out a recipe for turkey scaloppine (?). It turned out pretty good. Unfortunately, something in it doesn't agree with me. 15 minutes after eating I'm turning red and breaking out and ITCHING like I want to scratch my skin off. Such a simple dish. I'm waiting for the benadryl to put me to sleep. He's already got breakfast planned and it sounds wonderful, whenever I wake up

Is your kid a teenager who may still be angry with you for grounding him last weekend? Be careful if he offers you hot 'chocolate' tomorrow morning...

It's great when children show interest in cooking and baking, then finally decide to wear the chef's hat. Remember, the more you praise his endeavours (Wow! This tastes so much better than when I make it!) the less meals you need to cook.

I've been harvesting green beans from my garden, so last night it was fish cakes with green beans and new potatoes. Tonight it will be roast chicken breasts with roasted onions and roast potatoes with green beans and self grown runner beans! There may even be a bit of broccoli out there somewhere if i look hard enough.

My green beans and runner beans are covering my fence and i can't wait for the corn to be ripe enough to eat. I have about 8 cobs on my 6 plants i've grown from seed

I have some tomatoes and some blueberries and strawberries too. I feel really proud i've managed to grow all these from seed despite the cold early part of the year, some near drought conditions as well as too much bloody rain!

I've been harvesting from my garden as well, so tonight with the chicken and dumplings I'm making we're having fresh green beans and a big ol' mess of fried green tomatoes.

I'll probably be full of the tomatoes before anyone even gets here

Today i've got roasted cornfed chicken breasts, with roasted potatoes, broccoli and carrots. Will do some gravy too

I baked 4 batches of oat and cherry biscuits today to take to work tomorrow too so i'm feeling very domesticated; even managing to find time to tidy up the house a bit and mow the lawn and do some weeding!

My friend cooked for me this evening , while I reclined on the sofa with a hot pad on my back. She wasnt really sure what to do, so I said "whatever you can grab out of the fridge is good"...

Im not really sure what it was but... it had some gammon in it (left overs) stir fried in some sort of tangy sauce with lots of finely chooped green beans, carrots and brocolli...very tasty. She now wont divulge what the sauce was and Im eyeing how many cans of doggy meat there are left in the cupboard.

Hmmmm...

I just get on this thing where I really want some vegetable or another. Last week it was green peppers. So I went to Subway and got a sandwich thoroughly loaded up with cucumbers and double meat.
