Saute cabbage in butter until just done adding curry powder to taste while cooking. This is really yummy - and oddly, low carb (if you care)

Curry paste that you get in Indian grocery stores is outstanding too - you won't go back to powder.
You can also get red and green curry paste in Asian stores from the Thai section

Also good -- just fry cabbage in butter with some bacon bits.

It dries up. Add a smidge of water and cover and nuke - when you steam it that way it gets back to normal (as long as it's not too old).

Or add a smidge of water and steam it (not sure if you actually need the smidge of water if you steam, actually)

I've tried this and it's oooh sooo good. I wanted something to munch on but I didn't have tortilla chips or anything. I put some beans, left over chicken (shredded), chilies(habanero), tomatoes;onions in a skillet. Cooked it until the tomatoes/onions were fully cooked. Left it simmering until ready to be served with home made tortilla chips.

Then I grabbed a hand full of tortillas and cut them up in slices (like a pizza). Heated-up some oil in a pan and fried them until light brown.
Salt them if you like as soon as you drain them.

Grab a beer ; turn on your fave show and your set!

It was so good!

When I first left home one of the earliest things (other than canned ravioli) that I can remember making was:

1; take a hotdog
2. wrap in bacon
3. wrap that in a Pillsbury Crescent roll thing
4. Place under broiler

serve with beer

Now later on I got a bit more sophisticated and graduated to this:

assortment of cheeses
good bread from a bakery
olives
salad
wine

My doctor won't left me drink wine anymore but I still have a little in SL. ;-)

put pasta and frozen veges in water and boil water.
put frozen sausages in pot with lid, with olive oil to stop them sticking

drain water from pasta/veges, add in pasta sauce and mix
cut sausages into slices.

mix all and eat.
put excess pasta/veges/sauce in freezer.

Big Easy Quick Burgers

You'll need a broiler pan, an oven, a pound of ground turkey or beef, worchestire sauce, barbecue sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, a few slices of pepper jack cheese (or whatever cheese you like to substitute, I like the flavor of the slightly spicy cheese with the turkey meat), and four hamburger buns.

Put the meat in a bowl and give it healthy sprinklings of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Splash in a few large splashes of worcestire (however it's spelled) sauce. Mix it up well with your hands and divide it into four equal sections.

Shape each section into a nice large thick patty and arrange them on your broiling pan.

Spread a little barbecue sauce over the top of each one and set them into the oven at 400 degrees for about ten minutes or so. Turn them over, spread more sauce and keep cooking. Keep doing this until the burgers are done to your likeness. I usually only need to flip them once though.

Lay the slices of cheese over the burgers and put them back in the oven for just a minute to let it melt. And you're done, four big fat juicy burgers to serve four people or two really hungry people, and only a bowl and one pan to wash after.

Quick Quesadilla -

Ingredients -
- 2 tortillas
- butter or oil
- cheese of some kind
- chicken or meat of some kind, leftovers work well.
additionally, mushrooms or onions, peppers, any taco sauce or seasoning you want.

Chop up chicken, shred or chop up cheese if it's not already in slice-form. Sandwich between 2 quesadillas.

spread butter or oil on the outside of both sides and then stick in the oven at 350 for however long it takes to look cooked.

---------

only slightly more difficult but better version : put sliced mushrooms and onions in a frying pan with a little butter, cook and flip until the onions start to brown (technically turn "carmelized", if you don't like onions it's probably because you aren't cooking them like this ), then put that, cheese, and meat in your tortillas and cook in a frying pan instead of oven.

Very quick Tuna Sandwich-Heart Healthy

I can of solid white Albacore tuna in water. I use the Costco brand which is actually very good.

Mix with a high quality gourmet style salsa. The "Santa Barbara" brand is very good and has a number of different flavor varieties.

Slather this mix on thick with a couple of whole wheat or whole grain slices of bread. Use low cholesterol mayo on the bread as an option.
The spices, garlic and chopped veggies are already in the salsa. So if you dont mind your tuna spread being a little orange it is a very quick, tasty and healthy sandwich.

In a coffee maker:

1. Remove Old Coffee Filter and Grounds. Do not replace.
2. Fill a half a coffee pot with Water.
3. Pour Water in Coffee Maker. Do not turn on.
4. Crunch up One Ramen. Pour Contents into Coffee Pot.
5. Turn on Coffee Maker.
6. Stir Occasionally for 5 Minutes after water has stopped draining from Coffee Maker.
7. Drain Water.
8. Add Ramen Dry Packet Mix.
9. Stir in One can of Mixed Vegetables.

Alternative Variations Include:
Instead of Seasoning Packet and Mixed Vegetables you can use canned spaghetti sauce with parmesian cheese.

It is important to note that minute rice can also be cooked in a coffee maker, provided you have aluminum foil to cover the coffee pot with.
So, Ramens can be substituted with Rice.

When I was in the miliary living in the baracks, we were not allowed to have hotplates, grills, toasters, toaster ovens, or microwaves. We were, however, allowed to have coffee pots.

I am making a modified version of this for tonight's dinner.

The changes I made were:

Bought a chuck roast that was on sale. I browned it on both sides in a cast iron skillet prior to putting it in the crock pot.

Added one bottle of Killian's Irish Red beer to the 2 cans of mushroom soup and 2 packages of onion soup mix.

I'm cooking it on low until about 2 hours before serving and then, will add a couple of potatoes cut into large chunks and several peeled and cut up carrots. Then, I'll turn it up to high for the rest of the cook time.

I'll let you know how it turns out. I realize that adding steps isn't really bachelor friendly, but I also don't think it's that hard to brown the meat a bit and cut up a couple of vegetables.

It already smells incredible. I am dying to taste the finished product!

Grilled Beef Sandwiches

1 lb ground beef or sirloin
1/2 to 3/4ths of a small onion, diced finely.
1 cup of mushrooms, sliced
4-6 slices of bacon
1 tablespoon butter
------------------------------------------------

Step 1: Cook the bacon to your preferred state, and dice it into bacon bits.

Step 2: Drain all but a tablespoon of the bacon fat from the pan. Toss in the onions, and cook just for a few minutes, until they're just going towards translucent.

Step 3: Add the ground beef. Cook until almost done. Season to taste. I usually use fresh ground black pepper, some celery salt, a tiny bit of garlic powder, and sea salt.

Step 4: While the ground beef is cooking, saute the mushrooms in the butter.

Step 5: When the mushrooms are just a minute or so from being done, toss them in with the ground beef & onions. Also, at this time, add the bacon bits. Stir to combine, and let all the ingredients come together and finish cooking.

-------------------------------------------------

You now have the basic Yummy Meat Mixture. It keeps beautifully in the fridge. You can make Grilled Sammitches of happy goodness (see below), and then still have enough to add to the inside of a lovely omlette the next morning...

- Take two pieces of bread. Butter the outsides.
- Lay a piece of cheese (your preference: I like Swiss, hubby likes - American or Cheddar) on the inside of each piece of bread.
- Carefully heap about 1/2 cup of the meat mixture on the bread.
- Put the other piece of bread and cheese on top, and grill in a George Foreman Grill or panini press.
- Devour.

I seriously doubt any of these people spent much time as a bachelor/bachelorette. None of them listed THE basic bachelor recipe (though I admit one came close):

1. Open can
2. Get fork or spoon as appropriate
3. Eat contents of can

If you're going to get all fancy and actually cook stuff, you might as well go the whole nine yards and pick up a copy of The Joy of Cooking (available in paperback). Use less salt and sugar than recommended, and three times the garlic, and add hot peppers to taste, and it will be fine.

I got this from an infomercial by the sneaky chef I saw at 1am a while back.

Creamy Parmesan Noodles (or something like that)

1 can of white beans
1/2 cup of chicken broth
2 tablespoons of butter
3-4 cups of noodles (recipe calls for 4 cups of cooked noodles)
3-4 tablespoons of Parmesan

1. Drain and cook the beans
2. Puree the cooked beans in a food processor with 1-2 tablespoons of water, set aside
3. Cook the noodles and drain them, then set aside.
4. In a sauce pan over heat, combine and mix the bean puree, chicken broth, and butter
5. Add the noodles and parmesan and stir until evenly coated.
6. Eat (makes 4 1-cup servings)

I bought some pre cooked, seasoned chicken and added it to the dish.

Parmesan White Fish

Any kind of fillet of white fish (or orange ruffy)
Butter
Parmesan

1. Place fillet in a microwaveable dish with a few tablespoons of butter on top
2. Cover dish with saran wrap and nuke for about 2:00 minutes.
3. Uncover and sprinkle a generous amount of grated parmesan
4. Cover and cook for another 30 seconds or so.

If it is a thick fillet, cook for an extra 30 seconds or so, just be careful not to over-cook it. The dish goes well with green beans.

frying pan, olive oil, garlic salt, ribeye

rub garlic salt on meat, put olive oil all over it.

fry.

done, don't make any vegetables or side dishes, not even french fries, 'cuz it's supposed to be bachelor chow.

In a casserole dish: Mix a large can of chili (or leftover homemade chili) with a cup of shredded cheddar cheese and half a bag crushed fritos. Top with more fritos and cheese. Bake in 350 degree oven until the cheese is melted.

When I was a bachelor, a favorite of mine was just a heated can of Progresso Black Bean Soup on top of a cup of white rice.

I was young and cared about my health back then. Since then I found Bacon.

My simple roast is mostly the same as this. Flour and sear all sides of the chuck, pour 1 can of beer and 1/2 a can of water in the crockpot. Add 1 pkg of Lipton Onion Soup Mix. Drop roast in crockpot. Add veges as you like..potatoes, carrots, onions, peppers....the beer and soup mix makes some of the most delicious gravy ever!
