KFC's New Sandwich Uses Chicken as the Bun

So there is a bit of controvery brewing over a new sandwich from KFC that is currently being tested in a few markets. It is called the Double Down Sandwich, and features two different kinds of cheese, bacon and some type of sauce in between two pieces of fried chicken.

KFC's Double Down Sandwich: Is Chicken Instead Of Bread Going Too Far? (VIDEO)

No nutritional information is yet available on the sandwich, but a Vancouver newspaper estimates it clocks in at around 1228 calories.

Is this irresponsible by KFC in the midst of an obesity epidemic?

I've always been kinda perplexed by the term 'obesity epidemic'. It sounds a lot more 'active' than I imagine the problem of Fat Americans sitting on their couches being. Also sounds like it's being inflicted on us or something.

No, I don't think this sounds irresponsible. I think it sounds delicious.

Hey, without the buns, it's Atkins' friendly

This is actuallly a difficult one for me. On one hand, it sounds cool and different, and I think I would like to try it. On the other hand, if I did try it, that would be my only meal for that day with that calorie count.'

I think it's difficult to hold a fast food restaurant to being responsible or irresponsible for other's eating habits. Once the nutritional information is released, then it's really up to the consumer whether or not they want to consume that many calories, and that much fat, in one sandwich. I am overweight, although not obese, and I know what choices I should make when I eat out. I don't hold the restaurant responsible for all the appetizing pictures on menus and menu boards that make me want the "bad" stuff. I just have to know that *I* can't and shouldn't eat those things, so I don't. Or try not to, anyway.

I don't have any medical problems that contribute to me being overweight, it's my own fault and my own problem. I can't blame it on the fact that Wendy's is only 5 minutes away. My willpower is in my own hands.

Imagine the state of your arteries. If they were smart, they'd throw in a couple of stents and a 20% off coupon for your next angioplasty.

I could not face that. I don't really eat much of anything but that would turn my stomach before I even sat down.

In my twenties I might have contemplated it but even back then I never had a big appetite. I know I am a boring sod but I would get much more enjoyment out of a bowl of cornflakes with ice cold milk ...or maybe some baby tomatoes, celery and a slice of ham.

I'd eat it (at least once) in a heartbeat...

Then, perhaps, lose my next heartbeat.

The Obesity Epidemic is an epidemic of see-food dieting.

I thought they'd lost it when they came up with a chicken sandwich with no bun and somehow managed to market that as cool or different. hey it's got a cardboard sleeve! Be different, not some slave to a bun like those other fools. You're now a non-conformist!
Suckers. All I can think is that trees (for cardboard) must be cheaper than wheat these days.

<ok, allrecipe tells me a chicken cordon bleu is gonna be about 584 calories or even less>
I was going to compare it to chicken cordon bleu but it weighs in at about 2x the calories.
It doesn't look or sound that appetizing(until I think of how much I like chicken cordon bleu)... as much as I love junk food, I don't think I'd be able to talk myself into trying it tho...

I don't claim to have all that healthy a diet, but that definately surpasses the limit of what I'm willing to put in my mouth.

Is the fast food chain irresponsible? No, I'd say they just know their target audience.

I like the fact that it is probably low carb. However, it sounds like the portion size is too large - no way should someone eat more than half of it.

The portion sizes in fast food have been getting absurd lately.

I don't think the fast food restaurants are responsible for the choices consumers make. However, something about restaurants adding bigger and bigger portions and making triple burgers and quadruple burgers and stuff like this just feels wrong somehow.
