It's been forever since I've been in a KFC, but I do love a good chicken pot pie. I think you've given me the impetus to pick up the makings for one from scratch at the store.

I don't know if the KFC ones are healthy. Since they're so crazily delicious, probably not. But they're probably not as bad as the fried chicken. Damn, now I want one.

Mmmm.... is the drug dealer responsible for the choices consumers make? He just provides the stuff, just like fast food chains...

Well sidestepping the legality and addictive issues...

If the drugs are accurately labeled, free from adulturation, and the primary and long-term effects of using the drug are generally available, then the responsibility lies with customer.

If you're slipping me hash brownies without my knowledge, then it lies with the supplier.

But this begs the question... in what circumstances should we not allow the consumer to make an informed choice. Usually, it's when the impact to those around them is significant enough to warrant interference. In this case, the industrialization of our food supply is having a negative impact on the society as a whole.

The portion sizes in fast food have been getting absurd lately.
We went to Burger King, and I got a veggie burger, no mayo Value meal.

I looked at the soda and fries (they looked like the large sized ones I used to get from McDonald's and BK when I worked there as a teen) and said to Tracer. "Next time we come here, we should get small. We don't need this much HFCS or fried starches... "

He said they were smalls. :/ It's madness.

There was a time in my life when I was very libertarian in my views on things like this. What one person chooses to put into their body - be it food, drink or drugs - was really not the business of anybody else. I mean, as long as you are not hurting me, why should I have any concern for what you chose to do to yourself, right? As I got older and went through ten years of vegetarianism I spent a great deal of time reading. I grew to learn that all of humanity is connected in very complicated ways, and that the choices we make about food, drink and drugs - among a lot of other things - really do have a deep and profound impact on others. The choices I make, effect you.

Consider the increasing cost of health care, and the way that insurance (and taxes) tends to spread that cost out across an entire population. In a nation that isn't healthy we all spend more of our pay checks taking care of each other. Sure, other people's Big Macs don't go to my thighs, but there is still a cost to me and to you. Consider as well the cost to the environment and the economy in a world where "other people" consume in excess. And consider substance abuse and all of it's various costs on society.

We live in a connected world. We touch each other in ways we don't often realize. My choices impact you. And your choices impact me. This is the beautify of humanity, and of life. We mustn't pretend that we are islands. We must learn to behave responsibly - if not for ourselves, then for our children and for our planet.

This could easily be the best invention since sliced bread. Can't wait to get my chops around one of those!

Denying us this tasty treat would be like denying a man a steak because a baby can't chew it.
