Garnishing Drinks with random Food

Celebrated Canada's 150th this weekend which of course included sampling a few Caesars; the drink, not the salad.

Now call me old fashioned, but back in my day they came garnished with a celery stick. Fast forward a decade (and perhaps my tastes) and I remember being pleasantly surprised to discover and switching to the pickled green bean garnish in place of the celery. All fancy and shit.

So this weekend I order a Caeser, first I'm asked if I want that with the dill pickle or the bacon vodka... pickle vodka of course (as if I've even heard of pickle vodka before) and it shows up with so many garnishes I had to undress it to even drink it. It had both a lemon and a lime wedge, cucumber slices, celery stick, green bean, dill pickle and, of course ... pepperoni?

The youngens I was with had great fun laughing at my reaction, and filled me in that extreme or outrageous beverage garnishes are quite the thing.

Anyone experienced this trend? Any recommendations for garnishes? Any you suggest avoiding? Apparently there is a place in Montreal that garnishes their Caesers with mini sliders on a stick. That sounds kinda fun but I think this would be my limit.

The closest I've come to this was a tiny bar in the Quarter in NOLA that offered endless crispy bacon strips in a cup as long as you were there and ordering drinks. They had 4 kinds of Absinthe so I sipped my way through 3 of those and my sweetie had his Diet Cokes and we just sat there listening to the good music, people-watching and eating a whole lot of bacon. Pretty much heaven.

Seems like it's a "keeping up with the Jones's" type thing!

I'd rather order food on the side... on a plate... than have it pronged into my drink though.

Client: I'm going to use Radegast. Just have to sort out some technical things first.
I've never really garnished my drinks myself with food, but I have been known to mix drinks. For example, just last week I got out a can of Diet Orange Crush, and mixed some of it with some grapefruit juice that was given to me by a downstairs neighbor. It was quite good and tasted very refreshing. But I've also been to restaurants where the drinks came with fresh fruit on top, and one time I even got a plastic umbrella on top of my drink. This was accompanied by a fresh pineapple wedge. I like pineapple, so this was no problem for me. But since I am visually impaired, I often have to feel my way around the glass or cup to prepare myself for things like this. I'll take a mug of hot chocolate garnished with a cinnamon stick or 2 or 3 anyday when it's cold outside.

I'm not big on cocktails made of too many ingredients, or even Sangria, but I've always loved Bloody Caesars. Especially after work since it's too early for dinner, but you're hungry, but then you shouldn't drink on an empty stomach soooo... just add tomato and clam juice along with a celery stick or something and voila! You may now drink as much as you want guilt-free. Great invention.

But yeah, celery stick isn't seen much anymore.

I know they serve them at L'Gros Luxe.

Actually, now that I think about it, I do like a sweet drink as desert, especially the kind with whipped cream and something like Kahlúa, etc. One will usually suffice, though.

Here's one that looks good from the same place mentioned above (no recipe, though - boo):

Aging myself here, but the best part of going out for "fancy" dinners with my parents is that my brother and I would get those orange rinds with plastic swords from our parents drinks.

And we were entertained dammit
