Make Him Over Hunt II

I almost hate to bring this up ... I still haven't finished opening and sorting my haul from the first Make Him Over Hunt, which was only in June - not even six months ago.

But there is another now, with about 180 designers - 30 more than last time. I believe it got underway yesterday.

They are using the same website for posting hints and other hunt information - have a look here: MAKE HIM OVER

I'm torn on this. On the one hand, I had a lot of fun with the first round of this, discovered some new designers I hadn't known about before, and got a handful of very nice items.

On the other hand, it took a ton of time - I still haven't finished sorting, as I said - and already I have more to do in SL these days than I have time for.

What I may do is skip around to the hunt locations as listed on the website - visit the designers I liked the best last time, and visit the designers who weren't in it last time, to see some more places that are new to me.

Hmm.

Knowing that this one is here make me wish I had a list of designers I hated from last time. I may join you in your jumping about, Carter.

I MUCH prefer small hunts of 50 or fewer entries. The larger the hunt scope, the more I simply quail at the thought of even starting.

Well, the hunt came at a pretty good time for my newly made male alt, he is starting to look pretty good now if I may say so myself.

But yes, over 170 stores makes it a quite daunting task to find everything so Ive been jumping around a bit. The lag at the first 20 or so stores are also a good reason to either wait a lil bit, or jump further down on the list.

I ma thinking about starting in the middle. Did that last time. And I am still quite willing to say, "Screw it" and move to the next store - especially when the stuf fin the store looks not to my taste.

I started this last night with my male alt. I'm easily one to move on if the prize can't be found in 5 mins. I love this alt because he has nothing, and I plan on spending nothing on him outside of a decent ao. He's just my hide and build guy. There is some AWESOME stuff to be found out there and at least he'll look good building.

Skipping around is a good idea. When I do a hunt, if I can't find the item in a few minutes I'll move on to the next location unless the items on display in the store are really well made. If I don't like the stuff in the store it's not worth my time to look hard for the hunt gift.

Business: not any more :-(
My friend in these hunts is the hide selected items option... I just stand in a store, click around on all the displays, builds etc... all just disappear... showing up the hidden things happily so i can click on them. Most of the stuff doesn't rezz quickly, so i'm not worried about not seeing the store as i wouldn't have seen much of it anyway.

Ill go back again if i like the freebie :-)

I've been on both sides of hunts... created stuff for hunts, and hunted on them. To be honest the size and quantity of hunts within SL is becoming a burden to both customers and merchants. I hope it begins to tail off a bit and this demand for freebies reduces a little.

An honest blog about hunts, with details and pictures of what is available at which store is way more interesting and appropriate for me to make choices about what i spend where in the limited SL time i do have available now.

I for one am overjoyed that there's a second MHO hunt, because it inspired me to throw away the folder of stuff from the first one. I'll probably visit a few shops in the hunt if something interesting appears in the freebie blogs. Especially with OrinB's tip on hide selected! But I just don't have the SLtime to fix up alts anymore. My main's SLife is solipsistic enough these days

Wire frame is good for finding hidden objects too, as long as the build isn't huge

I'm OCD. I'll want to visit every single store even if I know I won't keep the prize.

You would not caught me dead in a hunt. I still don't get it and the idea of jumping thru over 100 fully lagged stores in order to get free stuff doesn't make sense to me.

That said, knowing Lourdes, she will be showing me what places hold things that I would like.

To be fair, the real benefit for me of doing the first MHOH was not the free stuff. It was visiting all the shops I wouldn't otherwise have seen. I did discover a few keepers during that; I have a notecard where I jotted down about 20 shop names with a comment about what caught my eye in each. One of them had some beautiful jewel-colored flats I knew my girlfriend would love and I brought her there after the hunt was over to buy them - and also picked up a sweater that became one of my favorites. I never would have found those if it weren't for the hunt!

I'm not much of a fashionista and I don't get out on the grid all that much, so having a structured incentive to just go visit places is nice for me.

Also, after the first week or so of a hunt, the shops aren't all that lagged, especially the ones further down the list. I did most of the first MHOH after the rush had died down, and I rarely saw more than one other hunter at any of the shops at the same time as I was there.

I go for blogs when I feeel for a bit of hunting. There are bloggers who are very up-to-date with the hunts that last more than a few days. Like this one: Miss Susas Second Life

She haven't put up some of the Make Him Over hunt yet, but maybe she will. It's a big job, finding all the items, taking a pic of it, numbering it.

It's just not possible for a blogger to cover all the hunts, but many show what they think is the best stuff. There's some guys who write for FabFree – Fabulously Free in SL too, so maybe keep an eye on it.

I agree that it's not fun to find 100, 200, 300 hidden gifts, where most are never opened... I just go for stuff I've seen blogged or gotten a tip about inworld. The Hunt Locations is a good blog to combine with other blogs.

Got 23 items so far, and two from other hunts that I stumbled upon.

I am hopping around on the list. Just logged on and saw an announcement about a replaced LM - new one attached. So I grabbed it - 142 - and knocked off 5 locations in about 20 minutes.

At this point all I have done is make and MHOH folder and dump all my loot in there.

I still have some stuff from the last one I haven't pitched or worn yet - and some animations I am not sure if I will keep for my AO. Want Milana to watch them too, and I just haven't done so.
Now back to RL.

I like what they did with the Skipping Stones Hunt. There was a flicker group that showed every single item in the hunt. I picked out what I wanted TP'd in got the items and TP'd out. I got 12 items I wanted instead of 50 I'd never sort through.

I will keep an eye out on the fashion blogs and feeds. I am sure there will at least be a couple of items Don will like.

Yum, Beebo!

One of my favourite blogs has a large post about the MHOH II: Make Him Over Hunt (2) « SLEX and the CITY

It is added to my favourites because it's several bloggers, they blog often, what they show is mostly stuff I like and find worth looking for. They also show some not free stuff, and that suits me just fine.

Someone pointed me to this today - MHOH2 Hunt - a set on Flickr

It's a flickr set that contains pictures of most of the goodies from the hunt. I was not above browsing it and cherry-picking the locations I wanted to visit. Saved me a ton of time - I grabbed the 12 or 15 things that looked good to me and skipped the rest. I don't feel guilty about it because I made a couple of purchases while I was out and about.

The person who did that flickr set was careful to show as little as possible in each pictures that wasn't included in the gift - so the flickr set is full of guys wearing nothing but jewelry, or guys wearing a shirt but no pants, etc.
