OK, I just did toe self-examination. I have to say, the shoe toes look pretty much like my real toes -- humpiness and all.

1000L? And pudgy toes? I'll have to think long and hard. I mean ... if Bax can do Prestige for less than 900L with all the options included, it's going to be hard to shell out the difference for these times how many colors I'll need to be flexible with them.

I got the demos, but we can't demo skintones, so I just saved a lot of Lindens.

I'm not going to spend 1000 in prim feet shoes that I can't demo skintones.

You are comparing boots to shoes with prim feet. In the current market price points now are

shoes/sandals no prim feet or toes - cheap
boots no prim feet or toes - Moderate
shoes/sandals prim toes and/or prim feet - most expensive
Gladiator type sandals/shoes prim toes and/or prim feet - even more expensive

The trend is starting to be that prim toes/feet are more expensive then most boots. Bax is pushing it a bit asking for 875 for just boots, even with the different sculpty options at the top part.

Of course there are exceptions to the rule but thats what I've noticed in pricing trends recently.

I only like the prim toes one, so when the color is a tad off or horribly off to some one else' view, it's not so so noticeable. Always some wonderful shoes being made! Slap some prim toes on them!

I know creators are trying to break out shoes into multiple categories, but that doesn't mean it makes economic sense to me. The shoe creator is asking me to pay the same price for skinning two feet (and not even whole feet most of the foot is covered by nice but not exceptional shoe texture) as I pay for an entire skin. Don't get me wrong, the toes are nice, but money talks. Now if the shoes themselves were color change it would be a different matter ... but per color?

Kalnins has colorchange shoes with prim toes/feet. Kalnins Conqueror is the name. I thought as you, for 1G I should at least have some colorchange in the shoe. The Conqueror cost 1200 L and the foot part look like crap. I won't buy that no matter how many color options I get.

I think Maitreya set the standard here, more will follow with better sculpted feet. Give it 1-2 months and we have more options and half the prize. I know I'll have a hard time wearing other prim feet after seeing Maitreyas.

How difficult is it to change the skin color to match? I'm terrible at doing that, so if it's a real pain, I'll probably pass. If not, I think I'll give them a try.

that depends, Aoharu I never could match exactly, but there are huds I could do that easily. I like to try to match the skin before buying the shoes, and in this case i can't so I'll pass

These ones where an easy match with the demo so I got them

Actually I own several pairs of prim toe sandals and pumps ... but ... oh well, /me wanders off to try to develop a foot-fetish so I can appreciate prim feet more.

These settings may help you match the Maitreya Gold feet to your skins. The skin and natural-nail buttons are self explanatory. The numbers between the [brackets] correspond to the H,S and L values that need to be added to that particular skin-preset.

The notecard abowe comes with the shoes. Just wear the HUD and apply the settings. It can need a bit more adjustment, depending on your windlight seting and viewer and graphic card.

After fiddling with the hud and finally reading the directions. I got it to match well with the League skin I am wearing. If you zoom in ultra close its not an EXACT match but when you zoom out to normal viewing length its perfect. Didn't try it with my Tuli skins yet.

However I agree the skin tone matching HUD should have been included with the demo. That way people can see what they are dealing with.

In my opinion? Yes, they're worth it. It's really, really nice to see some 1000L shoes actually worth the money for once.
That is high praise coming from Siyu.

Still can't pay 1k for one pair though.

I'm mildly peeved that there are no color options or accent tweaks included (although there are a bunch of different nail polishes/pedicures and skins provided) to help add to the value of them, but I really couldn't fault her anywhere on craftsmanship. And you're right, I'm extremely picky. I was really trying to find something to harp about in the Shanti ones (the ones my friend bought) but really couldn't. It really seemed like every provision that could be made to counteract the many issues with sculpties had been made.

So really, bravo Onyx

from a business standpoint it seems really stupid for her to release them at the same price point as moody.

I'm not saying moody's are better, but by doing it.. she puts herself in direct competition. Instead of being a Stiletto Moody killer, and completely one-upping the market.. she's just edging onto the same turf as stiletto and demographic and hoping to steal some sales from an already overworked target market :/

People can only afford to pay so much per season for shoes, and those who have spent 10k on fatpacks have already done it at stiletto moody a couple months ago. Its going to make the few buyers willing to open their RL checkbooks for virtual items a bit hesitant to do it again.

Just.. silly.

Moody customers have already sort of proven that they're not out to buy the highest quality shoe (sorry girls, it's true), it really does seem like the price tag is the biggest "draw" to them*. That elitist cachet of wearing a recognized "designer" label is so incredibly rare on SL, it's probably the only way they get a taste of it. I think they're all just flocking to a grossly overpriced store with mainstream appeal that's in the ball park of quality, so they can have a feeling of being special. I'm very glad she's encroaching on their turf, maybe Moody will get a reality check and stop using blatantly false superlatives in all of their ads.

(*I'm more talking about the girls who keep coming back, if you've bought a pair once because you liked the design you're really not who I'm referring to and I love you anyway, even if you can't see all of the glaring flaws that are lit up like neon to my cynical eye)

It's not just the skinning, though, it's the building. Not only is modeling the human body hard to begin with, but sculpties (I'd spit here if it weren't so unladylike) introduce a whole bunch of other problems on top of that.

That said, it does seem a bit much to me, and it's more than I would pay. But then again, I wouldn't wear prim feet even if they were free.

Thing is, I rarely wear that kind of shoe anymore. I wear a lot of boots and think I could get two awesome pairs of boots for that price.

Sadly, the only time I really wish my feet looked nice is when I'm on as Esma and barefoot.

Um. I think Maitreya shoes is below Stiletto Moody in prize, but a mountain over in style. Stiletto Moody's latest release had some "Marlene" shoes that cost 2195 L- PLAIN - with upgrades that cost from 495 L to 1295 L. ()

Disclaimer: I didn't buy them! I swear!!! My source is here: Emerald's Eyes: The token "look at my new shoes" post You should read Emerald's blog. She's funny and ironic!

I think Siyu is right. SL is the only place ordinary people can afford to buy what's advertised as "luxury". Remember Sex And The City, when Carrie found out that she had bought so many Manolo shoes that she could buy an apartment instead?

I bet a lot of ppl roleplay "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" when they spend so much in SL. They can't get it in RL, so they get it in SL. I am feeling a bit of the same myself, but since I didn't buy Stiletto Moody, I went and bought a pair of Maitreya gold instead.

Marianne basically summed up my SL experience. I'm a broke, college student in RL so I get my shopping fix in SL.

It's a sad, never ending cycle for me.
