Needing to know what to look for in a good neko ears and tail (innuendos ensue), places to look etc etc. I'm not having any luck searching the forums for info.

How do others deal with the whole stomach vs. pelvis attachments fighting?

Hmmm after a quick glace my tail and ears are from Urban Dare. The blog says these are "probably the most comprehensive HUD for Neko tails and ears in Second Life."

So how important are HUDs and scripts to full time nekos?

Yeah, I'm new to the whole neko thing and SL in general, please be gentle with me.

I had the Urban Dare neko ears and tail on an alt. I didn't use the hud much at all honestly.

I only use a hud if its a colour changing one.

Also go to SLX and search for "Neko Tails"
... you will get tons of hits to check out.

If you like your tail, that's all that matters.

Make sure any tail you're considering is copyable. That way, you can make a copy, attach it to the other attachment point, and adjust the placement accordingly. So, for example, if your tail was originally a stomach attachment, but so is the skirt you want to wear, you'll now have a tail version that is a pelvis attachment you can switch to. Much easier than trying to move every belt, skirt, etc, that conflicts with your tail.

Bit off topic, but it goes back to the origins of Neko in Japanese amine. In Amine probably 95% of Neko's are female. its very very rare to see a male neko, and if there is one....well lets say he isnt interested in the female Neko's much.

The macho male neko is very much a product of 2nd life that is not seen anywhere else. In fact if you look up the definition of "neko" on the web you see this:

"In Japanese gay slang, neko is equivalent to Hurosoma, i.e the more feminine member of a lesbian relationship, as well as the equivalent to bottom, or passive partner in a male homosexual relationship (especially in terms of Nekomata, a Japanese mythological cat creature) "



So basicly a guy saying "Hi! im a Neko" could be taken the wrong way in the same way someone not familiar with the term may say "Hi! im Gay!" when they really just wanted to say they felt happy.

I've been thinking about that myself, and wondering if I should do a story about this... there's a common belief that Neko men are all gay... (in SL, let me qualify) yet I've only met two gay Nekos in my experience. So it might be fun... (though I'm not sure how politically correct, lol) to interview a few straight Nekos just to help dispel the myth. ^_^ And you could show off your new tail? he he. Kyllie, what you wrote would be a great basis for the story....

I dont think its the person "dressing up" who is thinking that way, its the observer who dosn't get it or misunderstands the look.

I wish you could look like whatever you wish and not be harrased for it... but it just dosn't happen in SL.

I just wanted to explain why to some people, in some cultures a guy with a cat ear and tail would be taken as being more than likely a homosexual.

I should also point out this is not 100% either, there are some maculine straight Neko's in amine.

Apparently that's how Nekos are viewed in Japanese culture & literature . Feline features are symbolic of femininity, canine features are symbolic of masculinity. So says my resident expert on Japanese manga & culture.

I have to agree Stacia, in SL the vast majority of guy neko's I have met are straight. The Image most guys go for in SL is a dirty grungy urban tom cat, a street fighter sort.

The whole grunge/neko thing is a bit wierd for me, because cats are such clean creatures.

Agreed, though I have a guess about how it started... feral cats.

While feral kitties do their best to stay as clean as possible, most live in pretty grungy areas (behind dumpsters, abandoned cars, warehouses, etc.)... and at least with the feral kitties I've cared for in my life, most are often pretty beat up looking on a regular basis. And most refuse to become pampered house cats, and often when they do, the transition is never complete.

So that's my guess as to how that look migrated into SL... though i do have a vivid imagination so maybe I just made this up, lol! :-)

Anyone have thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them... sounds like we've got a story brewing!

And Kyllie, thanks again for your compliments on the blog... it gives me a lot of joy (and a great excuse to apply my insatiable list-making tendencies to something other than an annoyance, lol).

I'm this particular because it is what my Mistress wants, but that is a conversation for a therapy couch in another thread. ;>

I don't mind the grunge neko look, I just wish it weren't so predominate. I know there are other styles out there but they are difficult to find.
