Hat hair

I'll confess. I am a pushover for hats. Any time I see a hair with attached hat, I scoop it up.

I've gone through ETD, and Matreiya(sp?). I also found a cute little beret from le salon at hair fair this year.

But, it started me thinking. I don't buy separate hats because of the problems fitting them with existing hair. I always end up with either an enormous hat, a hat that sits too high, or bits of hair poking through.

Does anyone have any advice on making that work? I've found some hats that I would love to have, but haven't bought them because I am worried about finding hair that they will work with.

Are there any hair creators that make 'hat friendlly' styles, but without the hat?

I usually just start with a copy of a fairly flat style and then move or shrink any prims that stick out oddly...no ones going to see any strangeness that may occur under the hat as a result of my tinkering anyway.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Copy the hair you want to use with the hat and then start playing with it.

It can be alot of fun, the various things you can come up with.

All the hair I own is copiable. Make a copy, stick it in a folder with your hat, and start playing with it. Its easy to lower and stretch pieces to fit better underneath the hat you're wearing.

I make a hat version of the hair and remove the prims that stick out (or rework the sliders for system hair). It's not much of a chore for me since I don't wear that many different hair styles.

Goodie. Maybe I can use this advice to fix the hair that doesn't work with the hat she found for me. ( )

When I click edit on hair, and see all of those prims, I am instantly intimidated.

I suppose I should just buy a new hat that I like, and spend some time playing around. What's the worst that can happen?

You haven't tried it with your new hair though. I bet it will fit much better.

Thanks for asking this question, Merelle - I've had the same problem. I already have several hats I like, but have much trouble wearing them with my big girl hair . I have a pulled back, ponytail style I have to wear if I want to wear a hat.

I'm checking back here to get a slice of any advice you're given

I've had OK luck with removing the hat from a copy of a "hat hair" and using that with a separate hat. To remove the hat parts, you have to rez the hat hair on the ground (e.g., drop it), edit it with "edit linked parts" checked, select the hat prim(s), find "unlink," and then delete those prims. Wear it, then wear the standalone hat, which surely has a different attachment point.

I cannot certify that this is easier than simply tugging and yanking at an existing hair; I've had to do that anyway most of the times I've done this. Hat hairs do tend to have fewer prims. But this maneuver is primarily for getting the hat you like onto hair you like. And, to avoid being yet another chump with that blogged-to-shit hat hair.

I did last night. If I make the hat big enough it fits over the hair. Not sure how good it looks though.
