What do Brits eat for Christmas Dinner?

I have to make Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for my tables, and I was thinking of trying to get away with making the same turkey dinner for both, since a lot of Americans do have turkey for both. But it occurs to me that I have no idea what Brits eat for Christmas dinner -- not turkey I assume?

Turkey is pretty traditional at Christmas in the UK. Me, I prefer swan.

Would a rack of lamb or prime beef suffice? I always wanted to do prime beef but way too expensive.

Most Brits have turkey. Last year we had both turkey and duck.

There are traditional accompaniements too. Roast and mashed potato, vegetables (a variety, but generally Brussels Sprouts are compulsory - not many people like them but I do). Cranberry sauce and Bread sauce. Sausagemeat stuffing.

Brussels Sprouts, now if you could animate the action that will invariably cause - this table will be in my SL home for sure.

(I need to get a SL home myself now).

Itis, of course, illegal to eat swan in Britain . . .

Pep ( . . . except at the Cambridge college I attended, which had a special Royal dispensation - which was never taken advantage of.)

oh SIGH. Now I want Christmas Dinner.

I miss stuffing and gravy.... oo you need goose fat for the Roast Potatoes too. Honey for the parsnips, and a bottle of lovely vintage champagne would be nice. Must have Christmas Pudding with butter brandy and fresh cream. Stilton and Port.

OMG I hate not being in England. I would eat this right this moment.

Mincemeat pies. After 30 years out of the UK, I still beg visitors to bring a couple of jars of Robertson's over as I'm usually too lazy to make it myself.

OK, probably not 'officially' part of Christmas Dinner (if you can handle a mincemeat pie after the pudding... you have a stronger constitution than most but I can go without the stodgy pudding any time to have a nice, crisp mince pie with cream... mmmm).

I tend to ask for Stilton too, but my mother is still reeling since the time she put a large chunk of the extremely mature kind (well-wrapped, she thought) into her suitcase which sadly must have been sitting close to a radiator somewhere between there and here...

The importance of Christmas pudding must be stressed.

Thank you so much for supporting my stereotype of an English Christmas dinner.

Can we bring up the Christmas crackers?
