A Pavilion on ugly land

I have an ugly piece of land which was originally for getting an ad farm moved to. Now that the ad farm is gone I have been trying to make this into an appealing area to spend time. But since its mainland, it also has a view of everything around it.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Dongyeongju/238/221/53

It's along the maybe eventually gonna be finished Route 9, just up the road from a lake. Since it's next to a PG region, I am a little hesitant to put anything too suggestive along here. I would prefer not to put up walls if I can help it, but some of the surroundings leave a lot to be desired.

What I have so far is a pavilion which I would like to have as free to use meeting space, hangout etc. I started putting ivy hanging along the back to minimize some flashing textures the mall had. They have since fixed that, so I don't know if I want to continue the ivy as I would like the area to feel as open as possible.

I didn't make the texture that is on the pavilion; I liked it at first but its seeming too light and driving me nuts matching it up. I have the same texture that the mall put on their building but it doesn't look good over a large area and I don't want to look like an extension of their place.

Any suggestions or anything are welcome. I am far from putting benches or anything out yet as its still missing something.

I have a mosaic fountain that would look nice on one of the steps. I'll go inworld and see if it is transfer.

EDIT: Yeah, it's transfer. I'll send it to you...if it fits keep it. If not, send it back.

For some strange reason folks in Second Life like seating. Since we never get tired we don't really need it but it seems to be something that just defines a place as a place to hang out.

Maybe some nice statuary and that fountain would do as well.

Well isn't that the truth. For me anyway. When I go to a concert I usually am looking for a seat, not the dance balls. And I want the seat to position me correctly.

I agree that the pavilion texture is too light. There's a really easy way to fix it if the texture is full perm. You can just save it to your computer, and if you have PS or Gimp or something you can darken it and up the contrast. It seems to be an instant fix for some of those washed out looking textures. You could also darken the edges to make it seem like it fades into shadow or has a bit of dimension, but that would mean the texture would no longer be tilable so its only something to play with, not commit 100% to.

As far as hiding stuff around you... are you able to terraform the land? You could maybe put yourself on something of a hill, make it so you're looking down at rooftops rather than straight in at windows and ugly things. Either that or put yourself in something of a dip, and put trees around the edges just to obscure the view a little. Basically put the land and the terraforming to work for you.

Oh, and as far as a nice place to be, never underestimate a gazebo! Some sort of focus like a koi pond or even a big rock gives people a focused gathering point, rather than just anywhere.

There isn't much that can be done to terraform it. It's on the awful +/-4m mainland and is at max height. I may end up using more trees around the edges to obscure things more. Thanks for the suggestion to work on the texture with Gimp. Still playing with it some more to see if I get something darker that I like or just go for something new.
