Seriously.

Ok some quick recap. I have half of a large wing of my store thats unfilled, and I wanted some variety.. so I've decided to try my hand at making skins.

I figured that a lot of experience applying mascara while driving would turn into good at applying mascara to pixels!

These are my first drafts of my very first skin line.

I'm not completely happy with the face. The lips are from one of those PSD skin-maker kits, and I'm not sure about them yet. I also dont like how.. deep the nostrils are, but thats on the fence as well.

The skins default wont have the running mascara, I just threw it on to see what it would look like.

I'm also curious about what people would pay for a skin line that offered 3 brow colors, freckle, and body oil options. So 9 options total per pack. I'd like to undercut most of the big name skin makers.. but not undersell by so much that I cant stay competitive.

Oh and that black line on my nose in the pictures is created by my face light, not by the skin itself. :/

I havent touched the body, beyond color matching, and right now its just Eloh's skin template body with my cleavage enhancer on it.

Anyways, any thoughts, opinions, etc are more than appreciated!

I have so much respect now for Eloh, and anyone else who has ever touched skin making. Its way more difficult than I ever imagined it could be.

And a brief update. I've been asking all of my friends to try on the skin to see how it looks on their shape. Mochi was kind enough to take a picture for me, and I hope she doesnt mind that I post it here so you all can see what it looks like on a non-Ayumi shape.



I'll try and post more updates with any changes, as well as the skin on other shapes. Or rather, if anyone is interested in taking a picture of themselves with the skin on, and posting it here or sending it to me so I can see how it looks on you.. just let me know here, or in-SL and I'll send you a copy of one of my testing skins!

I like Mochi's rendition a lot, even if she looks a bit like Avril Lavigne.

But all in all it looks good, much better than I could do.

Stay under 1000 L if you will undercut the established skinsellers. Curio takes 1000 for a skin with freckles/no freckles, 2 different tans, 2 different lipsticks. No different brow options though.

I like the bodyoil option, but I understand that 2 different lipsticks are very popular.

Here's the light version on 3 of my shapes. You can see that two of them are rather similar, and the one to the right is a shape I've used with PXL Efe skin, a "black" skin.

And the tan version.

I have never tried to make a skin, so I speak only from a consumer point of view. I think you need a bit of tweaking on the lips, and maybe the skintone? I think the nose shades are a bit too dark too.

I can show you a pic to compare with. These are demos from new LAQ skins I might purchase. Claudia and Jennie in peach. These skins has a bit of glow and I think the makeup-details as lips and brows are very good.

The pictures are taken in the same light.

I think your skin looks lovely Ayumi and would enjoy seeing it in a non-runny mascara version. I consider 500L for a good skin with options a bargain and will pay up to 1000L for a skin I really like (I wear Fleur normally and raided their place last night for the half off sale). Having brow options are very important to me, freckles and body oil are not (I don't use either). Would your cleavage enhancer be included as well?

Anyway, great job and I will be sure to stop by your store when the new skins are out

Ooh yes, check out the new League skins, they come in 2 versions, one with cleavage. I think that would be better than body oil! It frees one clothing layer. Maybe sell 2 different packs? One w cleavage, one w bodyoil? Lots of work packing it....

These are really beautiful. The eyes are intriguing and I love the nose. To me, it looks very realistic. I agree with the others 500L-1000L for these would be a bargain.

I am curious though. Is it an unwritten law among skin makers that all lips have to be puffy?

I like the skin and makeup overall, but the upper lip concerns me a bit. I'm speaking as someone who tends to get Joker lips with many skins. (Yes, I'm aware that this is an issue with how I set the sliders on my shape, but I'm not prepared to make a change at this time.) In a lot of the pics in this thread, the upper lip looks significantly larger than the lower lip, which looks a bit unnatural.

Of course, I'll take this opportunity to beg you to MAKE BROWN AND DARK SKINS KTHNX.

That's the downside of asking what we think... our personal preferences when we buy skins are so different. It's "buyers market" just now, new skins come out so fast that we can hardly keep up.

3 big skinsellers, Redgrave, Curio and LAQ has some really good deals on their packs. LAQ take only 2000 L for a pack of 6 makeups. The two others 3000 L. Curio has 2 skintones and freckles, Redgrave hairbase.

Maybe - just maybe - costumizing is the way to go? Some want bodyoil, some want cleavage, some want freckles. Setting up more options and beat the big established skinhouses on that?

Will you sell mostly asian skins, or skins aimed for the asian market? Maybe it's good to ask the groups you want to "hit".

the upper lip being larger should just be my lip shape, It should look normal on other shapes.. (hopefully -_- HAHA)

This is an update with some freckles that I'm not completely pleased with, and non-runny-mascara eyes. I've lightened the shading on the bridge of the nose and I'd love to tweak the lips if I could figure out what is actually needed with them.

My goal is just to provide good quality skins that fit a wide range of shapes. Granted all of my testing has been on an asian-shape skin I created... but hopefully I can get good feedback off all of you so it fits other types of shapes as well!

This is using an old shape. Its not a *ton* different than my current shape, but the lips are normalized and not crazy anime.

I forgot to respond to this as well.

I would love to be able to provide all of the options. I've never really tried making body oil, but I *have* made a latex catsuit.. and I cant imagine the 'shiny' highlighting is much different.

And I'm thinking that I will try and price individual makeups between 500-700L.. and then set fatpacks to 1300 or 1400, although I might only provide 5-6 color options in a single skin tone per fatpack.

More options are always good. If you would like the skin tried out on a larger shape I would be happy to test (i am Eclectic Wingtips in SL )

There are way to offer those sort of options without being OMG on the prim limits too Ihave a clothing store and I can offr upto 12 colour options within the same prim.

I think the skin is lovely For me I would prefr the bone shading toned down a bit, but thats brcause with a larger shape we are more crvy hence less bone shadows (the ones around the neck area i mean)

Hi, I hope you don't think I'm too critical. I'm just one costumer, so maybe a poll would be better, lol.

The part I liked best was the eyes, eyebrows and inner eye corners. A bit hard to see the rest because of the running mascara. The part I definitly didn't like was the lips. You mention that you got them from a lip kit. Maybe you could draw better lips from scratch?

Again, this is my personal preferences. I think the upper lip don't have enough shades and highlight. Only the upper edge has it, and the rest of the lip look "flat". The highlights in the lower lip look too harsh. I know this is a prototype, and I hope you like a bit cruel feedback too. I am biased because I am so focused on a very different lip type.

I am sure some else will come and tell you they love your lips, that's why a poll could be good. Take a closeup of a few different lip shapes and see what the majority like.
