Maya question for other builders

This is, I am sad to admit, more of a newbie question with maya modeling.

If you use the CV tool to create a surface and then loft that surface you will end up with the top and bottom sides of said object as being open. How do you go about closing those two sides, with a sharp 90 degree turn and a flat face, without changing anything about the rest of the shape?

I'm basically creating a custom rounded rectangle, lofting the surface and want to close the two open ends with flat sides.
