Unnecessary Blackness on front of Blender Render: How Do I Fix It?

I am in the process of developing my first mesh dress for my SL avatar, and when I did a test render, this is the result I got:

The shadows on the right side of the skirt are okay, but the significant blackness should not be there. How do I get rid of the significant blackness on the front when rendering?

I may be on the right track with my problem. I need to have a lamp that surrounds the mesh dress. Is there a lamp that surrounds the mesh dress that I could add?

I did discover the lack of lighting issue before I checked your response. This problem is solved. Thanks!
