hmmmm looks like you might have too many faces or vertexes in the mesh? But thats just my guess

They grey look is normal from Zbrush and the exporter, at least a lot of my maps have it and it is not an issue. the squares look a bit odd though.

Which exporter are you using? how many points does the object have? What size are you exporting as. Are you saving the tool as an object first then exporting? The object you are making, does it have a lot of sharp angles? Have you ever blurred an image map in Photoshop?

I don't know zBrush but those gray lines look like they represent vertices that were added later on in the modeling process and fell out of the normal vertex order. I can imagine getting something like that by starting with a low-res 16x or 32x sphere and modelling away, then smoothing afterwards before exporting.

If you're lucky and the viewer doesn't see those gray spots, your sculpty would render as expected. If the viewer notices the gray, though, I think it would render any or all of those vertices at the center of the sculpty, making it look all spikey.

Does it work inworld for you, like Eboni describes with her zBrush exports?

The Zbrush exporter will not convert if there aren't the right about of vertices. I usually only see gray on the edges, not through the whole sculpt like this map. I would be interested to see how it looks in Zbrush and how it looks in SL.

marni, are you using the Sculpty Maker converter made by 2k Suisei? It is made specifically for use with zBrush. I use it all the time and have never seen results like the map that you posted. I have seen that sort of grid effect form other converetrs - like the Object2Sculpt program.

2k has recently updated his converter - you can find it on the LL forums:
SL Forums

You can also download it from my Shiny Life site:
Shiny Life SculptyMaker Updated to v1.5 | Shiny Life
