I am happy with my land at the price I paid for it. If I thought it was worth less, I wouldn't have bought it at that price. I never really expected to recoup the costs, since every month it keeps going up and up.

Change is good!

i understand that some people can be mad, The current island owners. But as i quoted someone in My Blog its not an "Investment" its just server space! I can understand to an extent how you could be mad, But its just servers.. I do plan to buy one or a few of the islands at the new price, However I dont plan to try and make it a rental sim. It will be my play island. And id much rather spend $700.00 less on this Play Island.
But Either way, Way i see it: Sl started islands at $1,000 and raised them slowly to $1,675. Now they decided to suddenly drop them to 1K again, They will either rise again or lower.. Personally i think they will rise, So my opinion, Is buy up all you can, Sell them for a profit in Possibly Q4 or maybe even Q3. Unless im totally wrong, Then, Not only would u loose, But it would prob start a protest with the older island owners if they dropped it any more, lol. But that is my opinion on the change, I personally like it, But i can see how people hate it.

Actually, No im not retarded... but yes i can see how YOU can be mad, However they said they would state later on what they would do about island orders placed within the past month, From what Im hearing Q2 Officially started Before the blog post (From a friend) Not so sure on how true that is, but he was saying that all islands delivered during Q2 would be reviewed and they would come to a decision on a month free? or maybe a refund. But i seriously doubt there will be a refund... No for sure info on that, although i would think being your order is so recent, They may do something for you...

One of my big pet peeves is people saying "it's just servers". That is just not the case.

If it was just servers, pristine waterfront would not be worth a ton more than crappy ad covered granite. Desmond would not have a waiting list for Caledon. If they are just servers then why do people pay a ton more to rent where there is added value with themes, landscaping, water access etc.?

Saying it's just server space is saying that the DVD set of the Sopranos is just digital bits. Or that Van Gogh's Starry Night is just canvas.

I was trying to make this point at Robin Linden's office hour when someone was telling me it was just hosting. Pointing out that if Robin's 2048M plot was for sale it would be worth far more than any 2048M plot I own.

Land in places like Shermerville goes for a lot more than land in Sanshillyong. If it were "just server space" and "just hosting" then land prices would be pretty much the same all over the grid.

Even when we bought land only from the Lindens and had no option but to release it back into their custody for a full refund, PG land cost 3L/sm and M cost 6L/sm.

The longer they wait to "state later on what they will do about island orders placed within the last month", the fewer people they will help.

Maybe they can drag it out until a month after their price decrease announcement, thereby ensuring that there will be no one who will have bought in the past month.

The more time that goes by without the promised "further information" is just like time spent waiting for the other shoe to drop. Its not a good thing to do something like this, and IMO they have totally , once again, managed to shatter consumer confidence amongst established users.

This I disagree with, because the Sopranos DVD set is just on DVD discs, and Starry Night is just on a canvas. It's what you do with them that makes them worth something.

And there are different kinds of landscapes just as there are different kinds of paint and canvas, and different kinds of video formats DVD/VHS/Blue-Ray with different bases costs. But it all boils down to what you do with them.

It is server space yes, but it's a medium like any other. It doesn't mean they're all created equal, but that's not true with other mediums either, there are differing levels of quality.

Thanks for quoting me on your blog! Basically all I get from you is that, It doesn't effect me personally, so I don't give a shit" mentality. Like I said a few times, and commented a few down after my blog entry you quoted, I think cheaper pricing will be better for SL in the end, but it should have been a gradual change that didn't crash the market and so people could have adjusted a little easier. This move killed a lot of customer trust, and it was a slap in the face to everyone who recently paid $1675. In one move they devalued estates, crashed the mainland market, and killed customer trust.

This is just servers.

Lets see LL match those monthly prices

Following are some highlights of Jack's Office Hour today:

yes, it'll [the followup post] be blogged in *checks watch* about an hour [13:06 SLT]

we will provide some assistance for recent (within 30 days [of the original BLOB post]) purchases of normal islands...people that bought openspaces in the last week, we will also try to help

as it stands we have no plans to change monthly fees on mainland or islands, and that applies to grandfathered islands too

auto renaming, grid moves and transfers will all be in Land Store but not from launch...it'll be a cart item and have a service fee...We are looking at April 16th or 17th for Land Store launch

it's [the new Mainland continent] due soon, in a couple of weeks, we're looking at what ground textures to use...if anyone has views on the mainland ground textures, please email me your thoughts...internally we know the new continent as Gaeta

our setup and upfront costs have lessened, but our running costs haven't in the same way [NO TIER BREAK FOR YOU]

I'll take on board the loyalty scheme idea, that's an interesting option [I'll post a thread about this in General]

Ok, well I just sat through Jack Linden's office hour. He said he's going to post to the SL blog soon, but I put updates on my twitter feed.
